- Determines Truck and equipment condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests; identifying worn and damaged parts.
- Keeps equipment available for use by completing preventive maintenance schedules; installing component and part upgrades; controlling corrosion; completing winterization procedures.
- Provide timely recommendations and detailed reports of findings on equipment being serviced and maintained to the fleet manager.
- Corrects truck and equipment deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts, or systems, such as, power and drive trains, electrical, air conditioning, fuel, emission, brake, steering, hydraulics; completes machine shop operations; making adjustments and alignments including bearing loads, gear tooth contact, valve mechanisms, governors, oil systems, control linkages, clutches, and traction units.
- Verifies trucks and equipment performance by conducting test drives; adjusting controls and systems.
- Complies with federal and state vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety, and combustion control standards.
- Maintains truck and equipment appearance by cleaning, washing, and painting.
- Keeps shop equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs.
- Contains costs by using warranty; evaluating service and parts options.
- Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; verifying receipt.
- Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical and regulation publications.
- Enhances maintenance department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
- Provide assistance to field personnel with trouble shooting and diagnosis of equipment via the phone or onsite in a professional manner.
- Seek and attend additional or continued education on technology, equipment and tools to keep abreast on the latest changes in your field.
- Maintain a clean and organized work station on a day to day basis.
- Comply with company handbook including workplace rules and safety policies.
- 2 year certificate or degree in diesel technology
- Valid Driver’s License
- Must obtain CDL within 3 months of hire
- 6 month industry experience as a Mechanic
- Knowledge of diagnosing / troubleshooting equipment issues
- Must have knowledge and skills necessary for maintenance and repair of equipment: light to heavy trucks, trailers, small gasoline to large diesel engines, including electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
- Expertise in Cummins engines & after treatment units preferred
- Strong communication skills, written and verbal
- Able to read and understand instructions in English
- Able to pass drug screens, physical and safety sensitive background check
- Willing to work overtime as needed and requested by management.
- Willing to travel out of town and to local jobsites to service and repair equipment as needed and requested by management.
