Read further to learn how you could help make great things possible not only in your community, but around the world.We are looking for motivated Transportation Interns to join our team in Summer 2026, with opportunities available in Lexington, Elizabethtown, Paducah, and Louisville, KY. We also welcome interns during the school year, offering flexibility to fit alongside your classes. This internship offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience across multiple areas of transportation, including highway design, planning, hydraulics, structural engineering, and rail—whether you’re looking to focus on a specialty or explore a variety of disciplines. You will work under the direct supervision of professional engineers and project managers, contributing to real-world projects that make an impact in our communities.Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with roadway design tasks using software such as MicroStation and OpenRoads.
  • Contribute to roadway plan production and related design documentation.
  • Conduct field/site visits to collect roadway data
  • Apply standard engineering techniques and procedures to assigned tasks.
  • Collaborate with project teams for alignment and profile, geometrics, drainage, development of plans and construction estimates
  • Participate in mentoring and young professional programs, engaging with company leaders and recent graduates.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support project delivery.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Current enrollment in a Civil Engineering program from an accredited college or university.
  • Strong interest in transportation engineering and infrastructure design.
  • Familiarity with MicroStation and/or OpenRoads software is a plus.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and take direction from supervisors.
  • Preference given to local candidates

QualificationsRequired Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate Engineering program
  • Attention to detail
  • Possess strong problem-solving and communication skills
  • Basic Microsoft Office skills
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
