- Design, formulate, conduct, and lead complex analyses of individual- and population-level health surveillance, operational, and military records.
- Provide statistical support for studies involving human performance, health outcomes, readiness, administrative data, and operational performance.
- Develop innovative analytical methods and approaches to resolve highly complex, multifactorial problems with minimal oversight.
- Retrieve, integrate, clean, and transform military health, personnel, and deployment records into usable analytical datasets.
- Conduct statistical modeling and longitudinal analyses using tools such as SAS, R, Python, and MATLAB.
- Draft technical reports, data visualizations, scientific journal publications, and briefings for USAFSAM leadership and stakeholders.
- Participate in interdisciplinary teams to evaluate research questions, refine study designs, and translate findings into strategic recommendations.
- Apply verification and validation protocols to ensure modeling integrity; troubleshoot and correct model performance as needed.
- Support development of comprehensive data dictionaries, metadata, and documentation of all analytic code and methods.
- Attend and contribute to professional conferences, prepare poster presentations, and submit manuscripts for peer-reviewed publication.
- Facilitate knowledge transfer through internal briefings, technical documentation, and government customer engagement.
- Obtain and maintain access permissions to relevant Air Force data repositories and systems.
- Education
- Minimum MS in Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, Operations Research, or closely related discipline.
- Experience
- At least 3 years of professional experience applying mathematical and statistical methods, preferably in health or operational domains.
- Technical Proficiency
- Proficiency in at least two of the following: R, Python, MATLAB, Maple, Visual Basic, or similar languages.
- Experience with SAS and SAS Enterprise Guide.
- Strong understanding of statistical modeling processes, including model verification, validation, and heuristics.
- Proficiency in logical and set operations.
- Capacity to learn and apply analytical platforms such as Tableau, SAS Viya, or Qualtrics.
- Skills
- Advanced analytical skills in statistical modeling, decision analysis, and longitudinal data analysis.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to create documentation requiring minimal revision.
- Ability to work independently or within a multidisciplinary team.
- Organizational skills, initiative, and ability to manage multiple complex tasks.
- Compliance
- Must complete HIPAA training and handle identified medical data securely.
- Must have a signed NDA submitted to the Government Program Manager before performance start
- Experience with:
- Stochastic and deterministic model development.
- Spreadsheet-based modeling, Monte Carlo simulations, survival analysis, and other advanced statistical techniques.
- SAS programming and military or healthcare data environments.
- Strategy tables, sensitivity/tornado analyses, and decision tree modeling.
- Five or more years of recent experience in data science, particularly in healthcare.
- One or more years applying mathematical decision analysis in a military context.
