- The expectation is that the Chief Estimator will not only oversee and review large target key pursuits, ranging from $5M to $100M, but also actively lead and estimate these pursuits. They need to be hands-on, ready to perform takeoffs in Accubid/Live Count.
- Oversee and review all major project estimates in the Western Region, ensuring accuracy, quality, and alignment with company standards
- Develop and implement standardized estimating procedures and best practices for the Western Region, consistent with company-wide methodologies
- Lead the Western Region estimating team in preparing comprehensive bids, including labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor costs
- Analyze Drawings, specifications, and project documentation to identify scope, potential risks, and opportunities specific to Western Region projects
- Collaborate with Western Region Project Managers, Engineers, and Operations teams to ensure estimates account for all project requirements
- Maintain relationships with key Western Region suppliers and subcontractors to secure competitive pricing and reliable material quotes
- Conduct final estimate reviews and bid strategy meetings before submission to clients in the Western market
- Work with Western Region leadership to evaluate which projects to pursue based on regional capacity, profitability potential, and strategic growth objectives
- Lead preconstruction efforts including developing conceptual estimates, design criteria, and performance specifications for design-build projects in the Western Region
- Identify and quantify project-specific risks to determine appropriate contingencies and exclusions in bid proposals, accounting for Western Region market conditions
- Develop sophisticated labor unit rates based on project type, conditions, and complexity factors specific to Western Region labor markets and jurisdictions
- Stay at the forefront of BIM and VDC technologies to leverage 3D modeling for more accurate takeoffs and coordination planning
- Monitor Western Region market conditions, supply chain dynamics, and competitors to maintain competitive bidding strategies
- Manage, mentor, and develop Western Region estimating staff, providing guidance and technical expertise
- Participate in project handoff meetings to ensure smooth transitions from estimating to project execution for Western Region projects
- 10+ years of progressive estimating experience in electrical contracting, with at least 5 years in a leadership role
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in Western Region markets
- In-depth knowledge of electrical systems, construction methods, and industry standards
- Proficiency with estimating software (e.g., Accubid)
- Experience with BIM/VDC technologies for electrical construction
- Demonstrated expertise in multiple market sectors relevant to the Western Region
- Strong understanding of National Electrical Code (NEC), Western Region building codes, and other relevant standards
- Proven track record of successful preconstruction leadership and design-build project experience
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred
- Professional certifications such as Certified Professional Estimator (CPE) advantageous
- Advanced knowledge of electrical systems, components, and installation methods across various market sectors
- Strong analytical skills with exceptional attention to detail
- Advanced understanding of construction documents, specifications, and contract terms specific to Western Region markets
