- Obtain work assignment from Team Leader, Plan Of the Day (POD/POW), CMMS, online systems or other appropriate sources (e.g., supervisor, engineer).
- Obtain appropriate electrical drawings (e.g., wiring diagrams, schematics, manufacturing, project administrator sketches) for assigned job, as required.
- Determine if system should be shut down or if work must be performed with power source on. Lock out, tag out, try out equipment and related systems, as required.
- Perform primary and secondary test on electrical breakers during routine maintenance. Replace, update and retro fit breakers, as required.
- Perform routine tests on high voltage switches and relays, using hipotential test equipment (Hipot), replace switch or relay, as required.
- Troubleshoot electric motors using appropriate test equipment.
- Monitor current, voltage, amperage, frequency and watts hours at sub-stations using online computing system.
- Check and service electrical systems, using infrared analysis sheets to locate hot spots in service panel, boxes, transformers etc., as required.
- Use laptop or HMI screens to program and/or troubleshoot PLC and VFD controlled systems on building and portable related equipment.
- Service and maintain electrical systems on various types of overhead cranes and gantrys.
- Operate, install electrical systems and perform functional test of building and/or plant equipment in hazardous and non-hazardous locations(e.g., machines, motor controls, room remodels), as required.
- Install and perform routine maintenance on all types of lighting fixtures (e.g., fluorescent,metal halide, LED, lighting controlled systems, standard) clean and check sockets, replace ballast and bulb, as required.
- Run high voltage electrical cable from substation to unit station, cut and splice cable, test cable for resistance using a Hipot.
- Install raceways (e.g. conduit cable tray) and all associated fittings, as required.
- Pull wire of various gauge and color through conduit using a fish tape or tugger. Install and terminate field wiring to all associated devices (e.g., switches, relays, outlets, and drives).
- Verify functionality of installation, ensuring it meets NEC, NFPA, and WAC codes.
- Maintain a clear and understandable written/verbal/electronic tie in to communicate with other shifts, as required.
- Maintain personal certifications and tool certifications, as required.
- Handle and dispose of hazardous materials in approved manner.
- Evaluate job for work to be performed (e.g., wire size, electrical load, conduit) in concurrence with engineering, as required.
- Work with other crafts (e.g., millwrights, transportation, plumbers, mechanics, vendors) in appropriate sequence to accomplish tasks.
- Direct equal or lower graded employees when assisting with electrical work.
- Operate mechanical lifts of various types (e.g., tiger lift, spider lift, snorkel lift), to access area to be worked on, as required.
- Install wire, crimp, terminate, and solder using tools (e.g., crimpers, wire cutters, soldering gun) in electrical systems.
- Establish/verify voltage, amperage, frequency and watts using test equipment (e.g., circuit trackers, sonic circuit chasers, volt, amperage meters), as required.
- Maintain UPS, batteries, battery chargers, and battery maintenance systems.
- Perform physical tasks that include lifting weights ranging from 10-15 lbs to 15-35 lbs.
- Engage in various movements such as reaching, handling, turning, twisting, lifting, lowering, climbing, balancing, bending, kneeling, crouching, and squatting.
- Work in environments that may involve contact with metals, solvents, and coolants.
- Operate in proximity to moving parts and tools, sharp cutters, and potential slipping hazards.
- Adapt to varying noise levels and atmospheric conditions.
- Utilize personal safety gear to protect face/eyes, hands/arms, and feet while performing job duties.
- 5+ years of experience reading and understanding engineering drawings, blueprints, schematics, and specifications
- 5+ years of experience working with precision measuring tools
- 5+ years of experience using hand tools and/or hand-held power tools
- 5+ years of experience using basic math (e.g. addition, subtraction, multiplication and division)
- 5+ years of experience working with industrial voltage electric systems
- Basic Computer experience and competency
- Must be physically able to lift/carry up to 35 pounds; push/pull using up to 45 pounds of force; and reach overhead up to six hours per day.
