The following agreement is entered into freely between Ivy Tech Community College – Fort Wayne hereafter referred to as the ‘Institution’, and physician name and designation hereafter referred to as ‘Medical Director’.MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:A. The Institution maintains a Paramedic Education Program.B. The Medical Director has been engaged in and has had a great deal of experience in the above-designated business.C. The Medical Director and the Institution are willing to continue this relationship and compensate the Medical Director concurrent with semester contracts.D. The Medical Director agrees to be responsible for all of the following aspects of the Ivy Tech Community College – Fort Wayne’s Paramedic Program:
  • Review and approve the educational content of the program curriculum for appropriateness, medical accuracy, and reflection of current evidence-informed prehospital or emergency care practice.
  • Review and approve the required minimum numbers for each of the required patient contacts and procedures.
  • Review and approve the instruments and processes used to evaluate students in didactic, laboratory, clinical, and field internship.
  • Review the progress of each student throughout the program.
  • Assist in the development of appropriate corrective measures when a student does not show adequate progress.
  • Ensure the competence of each graduate of the program in the cognitive, psychomotor, and affective domains.
  • Provide cooperative involvement with the Program Director.
  • Control the quality of delegated responsibilities.
  • Ensure educational interaction of physicians and students.

All responsibilities will be conducted within the parameters of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), other applicable regulatory requirements, and professional standards.EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and OTHER REQUIREMENTS:Must have strong working knowledge of current technologies appropriate to area of instruction and meet faculty credentials as outlined in the ASOM 7.1 for the specific area(s) of instruction. Conducts all activities with an appreciation, respect, and promotion of diversity of people, styles, and views.A qualified medical director in paramedic science meets all the following criteria:
  • Be a physician currently licensed and authorized to practice in Indiana, with experience and current knowledge of emergency care and acutely ill and injured patients
  • Have adequate training or experience in the delivery of out-of-hospital emergency care, including the proper care and transport of patients, medical direction, and quality improvement in out-of-hospital care
  • Be an active member of the local medical community and participate in professional activities related to out-of-hospital care
  • Be knowledgeable about the education of the Emergency Medical Services Professions, including professional, legislative and regulatory issues regarding the education of the Emergency Medical Services Professions.
