Your work will have real-world impact, and you’ll be supported in achieving your career goals.Job Description:Thermo Fisher Scientific’s Digital Operations team is seeking an Automation Engineer to drive the deployment of digital solutions and integrating with IoT software platform. This individual will plan, develop, and/or implement Digital solutions for new product introductions and optimization of manufacturing operations.This role involves developing, implementing, and maintaining automation systems, ensuring data integrity and security, and acting as a liaison between IT and OT teams. Develop and refine automation systems for manufacturing processes to standardize data collection. The position bridges IT and operational technology (OT) systems in organizations, focusing on automating processes and improving efficiency.Key Responsibilities:
  • Identify hardware, software, and network architecture key to achieve manufacturing goals according to product specifications and compatibility with diverse applications
  • Partner with operations teams worldwide to automate production processes through technology like PTC Thingworx, Ignition and QAD Redzone.
  • Develop, test, and deploy automated workflows, processes, and equipment to improve efficiency and reduce manual intervention.
  • Coordinate engineering activities to implement the automation part of strategic initiatives
  • Partner with Business Lead and IT-OT Automation Leads to support project teams in developing and improving process automation with IT-supported applications
  • Ensures compliance of company policies, procedures and objectives regarding processes, initiatives, and projects
  • Support solving shopfloor equipment and systems compatibility challenges to ensure a robust manufacturing ecosystem for implementation of shopfloor management applications
  • Monitor system performance and recommend improvements for efficiency and scalability.
Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
Required Qualifications:
  • 5+ years in experience in automation engineering and IT/OT solution build in a manufacturing environment
  • Equipment integration experience using IoT applications, Ignition, OPC UA or PTC Kepware
  • Experience with automation technologies such as PLC programming (Siemens, Allen Bradley, etc.), controls systems, robotics, or scripting (Python, VB, etc.).
  • Experience with PTC ThingWorx, QAD Redzone, or similar asset modeling software
  • Maintaining and optimizing network infrastructure, including switches, routers, firewalls, and cabling.
  • Familiarity with Digital Performance Management (DPM), Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), digital analytical tools, and Industry 4.0 concepts.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with internal customers and all levels of management in a non-technical manner.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with cloud-based automation platforms or IoT solutions.
  • Knowledge of databases, APIs, and system integration.
  • Prior work in the Life Science or Biotechnology industry is a plus
