The Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships at South Dakota State University is seeking a detail-oriented and collaborative professional to administer financial aid programs, counsel students and families, and ensure compliance with federal and institutional regulations.Must be authorized to work in the U.S. Sponsorship is not available for this position.Job Responsibilities: Supports the administration and implementation of financial aid programs, including FAFSA import load process and Common Origination and Disbursement reporting. Determines student eligibility for federal aid, awards financial aid, and ensures compliance with federal, state, NCAA, and institutional regulations. Provides individual counseling and develops financial aid communications for students, families, and external partners. Oversees processes for assigned programs, evaluates effectiveness, recommends improvements, and serves as a liaison to campus and external stakeholders. Uses critical thinking and problem-solving to address complex issues and support program delivery.Benefits: including medical, dental, and flexible benefits, retirement plans, compensation packages, paid holidays, and vacation leave. Relocation benefits are available per university's guidelines.Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:Knowledge of:
- Experience using computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint;
- Experience working with student information systems such as Banner Student/Financial Aid desired;
- One or more years of experience working in financial aid preferred; and
- One or more National Association of Financial Aid Administrators credentials are preferred.
- Interpret and apply federal and state laws and regulations;
- Exercise independent judgment in evaluating situations, making decisions, and prioritizing work;
- Balance department, University, and Federal/State financial aid program objectives and priorities;
- Develop efficient, customer-focused and compliant practical applications and solutions;
- Demonstrate strong written communication skills with ability to write procedures and create concise, compliant, and informative correspondence, presentations, and other written content for internal and external constituents;
- Communicate effectively including public speaking;
- Develop rapport with students and other constituents and ability to work collaboratively and effectively as a contributing member of a team;
- Apply basic accounting skills;
- Use algebra, to add and subtract, and to calculate percentages and ratios; and
- Maintain confidentiality.
