GIS/Water Meter Technician

- Perform field data collection of existing water infrastructure, including valves, hydrants, service lines, meters, and other assets.
- Review and interpret engineering plan sets, as-built drawings, and historical records to identify and correct GIS data discrepancies.
- Relay collected field data to the GIS Department in a timely and organized manner.
- Conduct quality control checks to verify GIS data accuracy and ensure alignment with field conditions.
- Assist in cleaning and updating old GIS datasets by cross-referencing drawings, field observations, and department records.
- Coordinate with Water Department and GIS staff to ensure timely updates to infrastructure maps.
- Assist with the installation, replacement, and repair of water meters and related equipment.
- Troubleshoot meter functionality issues, including reading errors and connectivity problems.
- Perform manual meter reads as required to ensure billing accuracy.
- Respond to customer inquiries and service requests regarding meter issues.
- Maintain accurate work records and report completed work to the Meter Department lead.
- Graduation from high school; post-secondary coursework in GIS, water utility operations, or a related field preferred.
- One (1) year of GIS experience or utility infrastructure mapping preferred. Six (6) months performing above or related duties; additional education or coursework related to GIS training is a plus
- Experience in water meter installation, troubleshooting, or utility field work preferred.
- Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, plan sets, and as-built records.
- Basic understanding of GIS concepts and data management.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to ensure data accuracy.
- Proficiency with GPS data collection equipment and mobile mapping applications.
- Strong communication skills for working with staff, contractors, and the public.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
- Physical ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and lift/move up to 50 lbs.
- Basic mechanical aptitude for working with meters and related tools/equipment.
- Work is performed both in an office setting and outdoors in the field.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting required.
- Exposure to varying weather conditions, traffic, and construction environments.
