Helpmates is looking for an entry level machine operator to join our Huntington Beach, CA Team. You must be able to read and use measurement tools like calipers and micrometers to verify dimensions; interpret blueprints/prints, & tolerances. Training is available for serious candidates that have basic understanding of machining, tolerances & polishing and you are willing to learn and pick up quickly.

Pay: $19.00/hour starting; higher DOE (knowledge/experience)

This is an entry-level, hands-on role operating shop equipment and performing finishing work to meet spec. Perfect for someone with basic measurement skills who’s eager to learn metal-shop processes and grow. Responsibilities:
  • Safely operate production equipment (e.g., saws, grinders, including Blanchard/double-disc, deburr/polishing equipment; basic CNC/manual shop machines as trained).
  • Perform part finishing: polishing and sanding to required surface finish.
  • Use measurement tools, calipers and micrometers, to verify dimensions; interpret blueprints/prints, tolerances, and in-process checkpoints.
  • Record measurements and inspection results; escalate out-of-tolerance conditions.
  • Load/unload material, stage work, and keep work area clean; basic daily machine care.
  • Follow standard work, safety procedures, and quality guidelines.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ability to read and use calipers (required) and willingness to learn micrometers and other gauges quickly.
  • Comfort with polishing and sanding parts.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and reliability; able to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Willingness to learn machine operation (company will train on specific equipment).
  • Nice-to-have: experience in a metal shop, deburring/finishing, or operating grinders/saws; prior exposure to blueprint reading and GD&T basics.
Training & Growth
  • Training opportunities are available but must be willing to learn quickly and be serious about the machining industry. On-the-job training on processes and equipment (e.g., Blanchard/double-disc grinding, saws, machine-ready blanks flow).
