- Trains, evaluates, and otherwise manages other master and journeyman level HVAC mechanics and helpers under his supervision and assists with interviewing personnel for employment and termination.
- Makes effective suggestions and recommendations that are given particular weight regarding the employment status of other assigned employees.
- Skillfully prepares material and labor estimates and maintains and prioritizes work orders.
- Makes clear sketches of proposed HVAC work, and assists in the design and specification of planned jobs or contracts as needed.
- Supervises assigned personnel, distributes work orders, and uses familiarity of capacities and capabilities of personnel and equipment to meet schedules and keep abreast of the department’s workload satisfactorily.
- Makes use of new ideas for improving the workplace experience, equipment performance and worker motivation.
- Ensures budgeting guidelines are met; prioritizes expenditures to stay within budget; assists in the preparation of capital and operations budgets.
- Interprets school division and maintenance department policies to assigned personnel, and enforces safety regulations and adherence to proper codes and standards.
- Recommends, or initiates action involving promotions, transfers, disciplinary action, and motivation of employees.
- Maintains records and files, including employee attendance, and gives reports as required.
- Trains and instructs employees in new methods or procedures.
- Maintains responsibility for proper stock levels of repair or replacement parts.
- Inspects work in progress to insure its timely completion and for acceptable quality standards.
- Identifies and removes hazards that affect the safety of others.
- Coordinates with suppliers, contractors, engineers, and others concerning equipment operations or related maintenance issues.
- Recommends, develops, and oversees preventive and general maintenance procedures used by his workers.
- Consults with the Director of Maintenance or the Supervisor of Maintenance on all matters not considered routine.
- High School Diploma or GED
- Current (valid, non-expired) State of Virginia Driver’s License
- Master’s Level HVAC Trade License in the State of Virginia
- OSHA 30 Certification -OR- EPA Universal CFC Certification
- Ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience working as an HVAC maintenance technician, all ideally within a public school system or other public institution or setting
- Demonstrated leadership ability
- The employee must pass a yearly physical and participate fully in the drug/alcohol screening program.
- This position is designated as "Essential Personnel", which requires that employees report to their job site during emergency situations, such as snow, inclement weather, or other emergency situations. May be on call 24 hours, 7 days a week for emergency situations, including weather and other building emergencies.
