SummaryThe Transportation Supervisor will arrange and coordinate the delivery and pickup of scrap metal while working directly with Carriers, Operations, Customers, Managers, and Buyer/Traders. This job consists of managing a fleet of trucks of approx 10 to 12 & a fleet of drivers approx 8 to 10. This person will oversee and supervisor 2 dispatchers. Additional duties include performing administrative tasks for managers and supervisors upon request.Essential Job Functions:
  • Oversee and manage the transportation operations, including scheduling, routing, and dispatching of vehicles and drivers
  • Monitor driver performance and provide coaching and feedback as needed
  • Coordinate with other departments to ensure efficient transportation operations
  • Maintain accurate records of transportation activities, including driver logs, vehicle maintenance, and fuel usage
  • Investigate and resolve any transportation-related issues or customer complaints
  • Develop and implement strategies to optimize transportation efficiency and reduce costs
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices in transportation management
  • Responsible for communicating with drivers and customers via phone or email for dispatching.
  • Responsible for relaying work orders, route rescheduling and assisting the driver with any inquiries.
  • Responsible for keeping track of the driver's location and a number of hours driven to make sure the driver leaves/arrives on time for scheduled freight appointments.
  • Assists with monitoring DOT (Department of Transportation) logs, ensures drivers are in compliance with all DOT and Company regulations/polices. Ensures all safety protocols are being followed
  • Minimizing empty miles, maximizing revenue-generating miles
  • Maintain professional relationships with customers via phone and email.
  • Constant communication/interaction with drivers, Carriers, Operations, Customers, Managers, and Buyer/Traders.
  • Complete forms and spreadsheets as assigned.
  • Ensure all daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual paperwork/reports are completed and on time.
  • Perform administrative and other duties as assigned.

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 2+ yrs. of experience working within a transportation department, dispatching and office experience
  • Experience in knowledge of the DOT Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulation and Laws
  • Industry experience in scrap, metal preferred.
  • Working knowledge of the delivery area.
  • Ability to multi-task as well as take the appropriate action with little or no supervision.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations.
  • Strong analytical, prioritizing, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to perform routine mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Problem-solving skills.
  • Experienced using Microsoft Office with advanced proficiency in Excel, Internet, Rimas, Shared Logic softwares.
  • Comfortable re-prioritizing and changing plans throughout the day based on guidance from the Yard Manager.
  • Promote safe work activities by conducting safety audits, attending company safety meetings, and meeting with individual staff members.
  • Contact customers to provide delivery information and updates.
Work Hours:Monday through Friday with a 40-hour work week.
