This role will develop and maintain the high-level design/strategy plan for the overall logical and technical architecture for the Backbone networks.Let us tell you about the perks!Be part of a company whose core values include respect, integrity, spirit of service, and accountability!Competitive Compensation- depending on experienceAnnual merit increases – recruiter will share more!We are currently offering a $5,000 restricted stock grant!Medical, dental, and vision insurance, and 401k with a company matchPaid time off, paid holidays, and tuition reimbursement.Significant discounts on broadband packages for employees residing in our service areas.What You'll be doing:Include but are not limited to the following:Generates conceptual, logical, and physical network architectures.Lead the creation of detailed documentation, test analyses, risk assessments, and design strategies to ensure robust and future-proof architecturesProvide technical leadership and mentorship across the engineering team, guiding research, design, and development of backbone network solutionsResearch and analyze the most complex data, voice, and video network and hardware problems and provide recommendations for solutionDevelop and maintain a road map for capabilities, operations and technologiesDetermine methods and procedures to be implemented and used on complex new technologies to enhance performance.Proactively identify opportunities to increase backbone network reliability and reduce costsResearch and evaluate emerging technologies to ensure solutions remain aligned with industry standards and innovation trendsParticipate in evaluating complex data, voice, or video networking technologies to understand their potential and recommend future directionEvaluate cost analyses and vendor comparisons for large-scale projects to ensure cost-effective and efficient operations, and measures feasibility of various approachesRevise model and budgetary guidelines as appropriate and in conjunction with engineering leadership to ensure company and client needs are metRecommend complex investment decisions to management and internal customers based on results of independent assessment of current and future data network performance, stability, and network management issuesDesign network solutions, perform lab testing, document HLDs and LLD, support handing off to core implementation teamWork with other engineering teams to ensure detailed designs are deployable, and able to be operated with minimal impacts to customers, and operating expensesWork with vendor partners to ensure engineering requirements are aligned with product roadmapsAct as a mentor and provide oversight to junior network engineering staff and implementation engineering.Other duties as assignedWhat YOU need is:To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Minimum Required Education and ExperienceBachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, preferred or equivalent work experience.Skills and Abilities to be Successful in this Role6+ years’ experience in ISP environment and 7+ years’ experience in designing network architecturesExpert routing knowledge required in OSPF, IS-IS, BGP, MPLS, RSVP-TE and multicastExtensive network engineering and architecture experience - excellent understanding of Internet and datacenter topologiesExtensive experience in evaluating, configuring, and troubleshooting network hardware, particularly Juniper, Arista, Cisco — with a deep understanding of hardware architecture and platform nuancesThorough understanding of various L2/L3 protocols and technologies: TCP/IP (v4 & v6) and related protocols, multicast, MPLS-based services, QOS, BFD, LACP, VRRP, STP, etcUnderstanding of Layer 4-7 switching/load balancing and application integrationStrong grasp of network security protocols, policies, and best practicesAble to investigate new technologies, develop scalable network solutions, and create successful business cases to propose new configurations, architectures, services, and policiesAnalytical approach to problem solving and usage of methodical & documented processes to propose network enhancementsExperience in a production environment supporting mission-critical, Internet-facing servicesAbility to perform necessary mathematical functions and calculations related to network design, planning and performanceAdvanced industry certifications: JNCIE, CCIE-SP, or equivalent preferredExperience with optical transport/DWDM technologies preferredFamiliarity with network automation (Python, Ansible, Terraform) preferredProficient with Microsoft OfficePhysical Demands/Working Conditions: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
