- Operational Leadership & Service Delivery
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of campus facilities, including maintenance, custodial services, and groundskeeping, ensuring safe, efficient, and responsive service. Manage emergency response protocols and after-hours service coordination.
- Set clear performance expectations for teams and ensure timely, high-quality completion of work across all areas of responsibility.
- Monitor work order systems and service metrics to ensure follow-through, resolve backlogs, and continuously improve service levels.
- Must be willing and able to respond to UCCS emergencies, including snow removal, within 30 minutes.
- Customer Service & Campus Engagement
- Foster a culture of customer service and accountability, ensuring facilities teams are responsive to the needs of students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
- Communicate proactively with campus stakeholders regarding service interruptions, project timelines, and operational updates.
- Build strong working relationships across campus departments to anticipate and meet facility needs.
- Project & Construction Management
- Direct the planning, design, and execution of small in-house repair and renovation projects as assigned.Solicit proposals and purchase orders for repairs and small projects in conformance with university standards.
- Review construction documents, contracts, pay applications, and change orders.
- Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and meet programmatic and design standards.
- Strategic Planning & Capital Improvement
- Lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive facilities assessment and planning strategy to clearly identify and address deferred maintenance and capital improvement needs on an annual basis.
- Prioritize and communicate project needs to campus leadership, stakeholders and state agencies to advocate for funding in alignment with institutional goals and budgeting cycles.
- Provide data-driven recommendations to inform resource allocation, sustainability initiatives and campus planning priorities.
- Prepare and manage documentation for state-level facilities reporting and compliance requirements.
- Financial & Resource Management
- Develop and manage annual operating and capital budgets for general and auxiliary-funded facilities.
- Identify and implement cost-saving opportunities while maintaining service quality and safety.
- Oversee procurement processes and vendor contracts in accordance with university policies.
- Team Leadership & Staff Development
- Supervise, mentor, and support a diverse team of facilities professionals, including both university and classified staff.
- Promote a positive and inclusive workplace culture focused on accountability, continuous learning, and employee engagement.
- Lead recruitment, training, performance management, and professional development efforts across the department.

- To be considered for this role, you must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in facilities management, engineering, architecture, construction, business administration, or a closely related field.
- You must also have a proven track record of leadership in managing complex facilities operations and maintenance portfolios, with demonstrated success in supervising and developing multidisciplinary teams including maintenance, custodial, and operations staff.
- Experience with a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) for tracking work orders, preventive maintenance, and asset management is required.
- A working knowledge of applicable building codes, safety regulations, and environmental compliance standards at the local, state, and federal levels is necessary.
- Experience in developing and managing operating and capital budgets and leading cross-functional teams or organizational change initiatives is highly desirable.
- Experience working with classified personnel and familiarity with public sector human resources practices is preferred.
- Professional certifications such as Certified Educational Facilities Professional (CEFP), Facilities Management Professional (FMP), Certified Facility Manager (CFM), or Professional Engineer (PE) is highly preferred.
- A Master’s Degree in a related field is highly desirable but not required.
