- Accountable for meeting all applicable food regulations; international, national, state, and local. Examples include Food and Drug, local health department inspections, weights and measure inspections, and Preventive Controls.
- Accountable for complying with the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) standards in which the bakery location participates (i.e. BRC, SQF).
- Accountable for documentation control, and maintenance of the Quality Management System (QMS) including procedures, records, good manufacturing practices (GMPs), and Food Safety Plan.
- Works with the operations team to maintain the safety, legality, and regulatory requirements of each food and the processes used in their bakery location.
- Works with other support departments to improve bakery performance (e.g. maintenance, sanitation, warehouse, operations).
- Understands the Critical Quality Control Points (CTQCP) of the products manufactured, to drive operational performance and effectively deliver right the first time quality and mission zero based on finished product specifications.
- Accountable for understanding, and implementing customer requirements.
- Supports the bakery team to reduce customer/consumer complaints for foods manufactured on-site using root cause analysis, corrective actions, and preventive measures.
- Responsible for the day-to-day management of the Food Safety and Quality Assurance Technicians, including training and development of the team and clear identification of objectives to meet the bakery's needs.
- Collaborating with the FSQA Manager on establishing a talent training and skills matrix with clear planning and development for the FSQA technicians.
- Strict adherence to the Integrated Management System (AIMS) Programs.
- Reports food safety and quality issues, corrective actions, and preventive measures to the FSQA Manager.
- Authorized to hold products based on food safety or quality non-conformities. Places food on both physical and SAP hold, and collaborates with the FSQA Manager on disposition and decisions to release product for hold.
- Trained as a backup for FSQA Manager as a technical representative for regulatory, customer, and third-party audits.
- Accountable for assuring materials are received from approved suppliers and conducting raw material supplier performance monitoring based on specifications.
- Participate in the review, verification, and update of HARPc Food Safety Plans, procedures, and documents to protect product safety and quality.
- Participate in routine facility programs, and corporate audits to ensure the site is in compliance.
- Manage relationships with intra- and inter-departmental colleagues and suppliers to ensure the achievement of departmental and company-wide targets.
- Responsible for other supervisory activities including, but not limited to, labor budget management, performance evaluation, hiring, discipline, coaching, training and development, and termination recommendation.
- Actively leads and participates in the food safety culture of the bakery, with a clear understanding of the SIFIRI (See It, Fix It, Report It) program. Includes regular communication, education, events, and employee recognition programs.
- Accountable for upholding the values of integrity, ownership, customer focus, creativity, and care while bringing these values into their daily work.
- Exemplifies a safe and healthy work environment and conducts activities in a safe and healthy manner, reporting unsafe conditions to their direct report and bakery director.
- Other duties may be assigned and FSQA Manager is expected to effectively manage and execute changes.
- A high school diploma, some college science courses, or experience in the food industry required
- A Bachelor of Science Degree or sufficient experience in the food industry preferred
- Trained in a Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) standard such as BRC or SQF
- Basic understanding of environmental monitoring program(s).
- 3 years of food industry manufacturing or quality experience including supervisory experience.Minimum of 3 - 5 years comprehensive food processing, food safety, and quality experience with an extensive background in manufacturing food industry, HARPc, USDA, or FDA, preferred.
- Previous experience with GFSI, BRC, SQF, and/or USDA audits is desirable.
- Training in HACCP (Hazard Analysis & Critical Control Points) preferred
- Trained as a PCQI (Preventive Controls Qualified Individual) preferred
