- Assist the Head Coach in carrying out his/her duties.
- Responsible for knowing, understanding and implementing MSHSAA rules and regulations and attending the mandatory rules clinic and coaches meetings. Must be certified in CPR/First Aid/AED.
- Supervise and conduct practices and contests in a safe manner.
- Maintain a professional appearance.
- Assist in managing uniforms, equipment and facilities in a responsible manner.
- Work toward building and teaching good sportsmanship, cooperative work ethic and responsibility.
- Work toward developing good public relations with the parents, school, booster club and community.
- Communicate with the head coach, Athletic Director, administrators, assistant coaches, players and parents.
- Direct injured athletes to the trainer and report injuries to the nurse.
- Teach relevant skills, tactics and techniques.
- Monitor and enhance performance by providing encouragement and constructive feedback.
- Assess strengths and weaknesses in a participant’s performance and identifying areas for further development.
- Adapt to the needs and interests of the group or individual participant.
- Communicate instructions and commands using clear, simple language.
- Demonstrate an activity by breaking the task down into a sequence.
- Encourage participants to gain and develop skills, knowledge, and techniques.
- Ensure participants train and perform to a high standard of health and safety at all times.
- Inspire confidence.
- Develop knowledge and understanding of fitness, injury, sports psychology, nutrition, and sports science.
- Assist in developing training programs.
- Assist in sports promotion/development.
- Work to a high legal and ethical standard at all times, particularly in relation to issues such as child safeguarding and health and safety requirements.
