Your hire will not be confirmed until the position is vacated, and you may start the year as a Long-Term Substitute if the position does not become vacant by the start of the school year.HEAD STAFF ASSISTANT Grade 28School HoursHours: 7:50 am - 2:35 pm, M, T, Th, F; 7:50 am - 12:35 pm Wed.General statement of duties and responsibilities: Under general supervision and using appropriate current technology, performs complex administrative work for a large unit or department.
  • Managing and assigning substitutes or coverage through paraprofessionals to prospective classrooms when the teachers are absent.
  • Serve as Fund Liaison, Coordinator, planner, and Grant Manager for BEDF Funds and ESL Grants.
  • Plan and coordinate events including monthly meetings with students focused on Prom and all senior activities.
  • Oversee graduation planning, rehearsals, cap and gown ordering and distribution. Work closely with the senior class to support and improve academic performance, particularly for students who are off track or at risk of not graduating.
  • Creating inspiring events for the Burke Community, including students and families,such as Back-to-School Barbeques, Field Day, etc. Collaborate with Burke Partners and school leadership to strengthen the school community. Attend and coordinate these meetings once a week after school.
  • Coordinate ILT ( Instructional Leadership Team) meeting agendas, and stipends, as well as coordinate MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Supports) Agendas, Meetings, and stipends. ILT and MTSS meet Bi weekly after school for 1.5 hours.
  • Plan and organize family events, including parent events, school-wide family gatherings, and Open House events. Support and collaborate with school partners.
  • Assist in the planning and coordination of summer school programs. Collaborate with teachers and leadership to actively participate in all school events serving the Burke community.
  • Take a lead role in budgeting and ordering for English Language Learners, including meeting with teachers to coordinate materials, field trips, and events. Collaborate with Saint Peter’s Church on ESL initiatives, including organizing and overseeing after-school pods for Burke students at the church in Dorchester.
  • Coordinate. Door-to-Door transportation with the Burke Teachers and Staff.
  • Responds to inquiries and requests for information.
  • Using current technology, prepares correspondence, reports, notices, and other documents.
  • Performs complex administrative work for a large unit or department.
  • May oversee scheduling for members of the unit or department and for the unit's or department's activities.
  • Creates and maintains the unit's or department's databases.
  • As needed, prepares payroll and requisitions.
  • May supervise clerical staff
  • Performs related duties of a similar nature, as requested by supervisor, which are commensurate with job classification.
  • These additional duties include the day-to-day duties of creating, maintaining databases, schedules, payrolls, requisitions, etc. the day to day typical duties. Also, to assist in the planning of our professional development meeting and staff retreats.
Qualifications:
Required:
  • High school diploma or equivalency
  • Minimum two years clerical or secretarial experience
  • Proficient in word processing, email, and database programs
  • Successfully completed appropriate coursework
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Good organizational skills
Preferred:
  • Post secondary education or course work
  • Minimum of one year supervisory experience
Terms: Guild, Grade 28 (Refer to the Salary Compensation section on the Career Site for more information on compensation.) The workday of all employees working in traditional schools shall begin fifteen (15) minutes prior to the beginning of the pupils’ school day and shall end no later than one (1) hour after the close of the school day (up to seven (7) hours and fifteen (15) minutes inclusive of their break and lunch) unless the employees are excused earlier by their immediate supervisor.
