This strategic leadership role offers a unique opportunity to shape the technological foundation for a growing educational network while guiding two respected institutions through transformative change. Based at St. Ambrose University in Davenport, IA, with oversight of Mount Mercy University in Cedar Rapids, the CIO will lead the design and implementation of scalable technology infrastructure that can accommodate future institutional partners.The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in higher education IT leadership and a proven track record of aligning technology strategy with institutional mission. Leading a team of IT professionals across both campuses, the CIO will drive innovation in teaching and learning platforms, ensure secure and reliable IT service delivery, and establish governance frameworks that support strategic decision-making. This role demands a visionary leader who can build bridges between teams, foster a unified IT culture, and create technological environments that advance academic excellence and operational efficiency. Key initiatives include developing comprehensive IT strategies in collaboration with academic and administrative leaders, implementing best-in-class solutions to address emerging educational needs, and fostering strong relationships with external higher education communities.We seek a strategic thinker with a strong track record of IT leadership experience in complex, multi-location environments, preferably within the higher education sector. The successful candidate will possess exceptional communication skills, demonstrated success as a change agent, and expertise across all major IT functional areas, including infrastructure, cloud services, and enterprise systems.This is more than a CIO role, it's a chance to lead a transformative journey as two respected institutions come together. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping a unified IT culture, building bridges between teams, and creating a technology environment that supports innovation, access, and excellence in higher education.Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in information security, engineering, telecommunications, computer science, or a closely related field
  • 7+ years of experience in a leadership role in IT (within higher education preferred), with broad exposure to network, infrastructure, cloud, and multiplatform environments
  • Proven success serving as a strong change agent and leader, with a track record of elevating IT at the most senior levels of an organization and partnering as a trusted peer to the business.
  • Demonstrated success in hiring and managing staff and providing effective delegation and coaching/mentoring.
  • Previous experience in developing, gaining buy-in, and implementing a comprehensive IT strategic plan.
