Certified - Position - MathematicsJob Number 2300284352Start Date 08/01/2024Open Date 03/07/2024Closing Date 09/01/2024QUALIFICATIONS TO APPLY:SHOULD have an academic major in math or math related field OR HAVE 32 semester hours, including 19 semester hours of upper division credits in math AND passing scores on the Praxis II Mathematics Content Knowledge 5161, OR have passing scores on the Praxis II Mathematics Content Knowledge 5161 with a minimum of ten to eighteen semester hours of upper level courses (i.e. 300 or 400) in math with a grade of C or higher. Those wishing to teach middle school (grades 4-8) only are required to have passing scores on the Middle School Math Praxis (5169).The Praxis II Exam is designed for college majors. In other words, the persons with the best chance of passing the exam will have a high concentration (20-30 semester hours) of college courses in Math. Courses such as bookkeeping and accounting are not considered math courses, they are business courses. PASSING SCORES ON THE PRAXIS ARE REQUIRED FOR LONG-TERM EMPLOYMENT.MUST have a minimum 2.50 G.P.A. on a 4.0 scale on the undergraduate degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education. Persons with Master's Degrees need a minimum GPA of 3.0. Applicants with a GPA between 2.0 and 2.74 can apply but will have to make a HIGHER ALTERNATE SCORE on the Praxis. Applicants should attach their Bachelor's degree transcript and Praxis Scores to their online application or Master's if they have one. Applications with transcripts and Praxis scores will be considered first.If the Math Praxis is not passed before hiring, it MUST be passed by the end of the Emergency Certificate in order to be rehired.Costs for exams are borne by the teacher applicant. Four college courses from an Alabama College or University are required to move to the Provisional Certificate and for continued employment and those costs are borne by the teacher also.The duties include but are not limited to:

  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to achieve a functional learning atmosphere.
  • Exhibits positive human relations skills.
  • Evaluates the educational program and/or student progress.
  • Communicates with parents/guardians, colleagues, and community groups.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in written and oral communication.
  • Maintains and submits records and reports.
  • Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local board policies, and state and federal rules and regulations.
  • Engages in personal professional growth and demonstrates professional ethics and leadership.
  • Follows suggestions and instructions of various school system mentors and supervisors.
Duty Days 187Salary Range: From/To As per State Matrix, depending on degree and experience.
