- Drive business results through objectives that align with Caterpillar’s sustainability strategy and enhance the Company’s reputation on environmental and sustainability issues
- Track and analyze key customer, competitive, and peer company information (e.g., sustainability actions and investments, environmental metrics data, targets and progress)
- Support product and commercial teams as an internal consultant with knowledge of their customer’s sustainability initiatives and drivers
- Assess opportunities related to sustainability and the evolving energy landscape by collaborating with other Divisions across Caterpillar, including Enterprise Strategy, Electrification + Energy Solutions, and others
- Innovate in product development, supply chain, and operations by researching and evaluating evolving corporate sustainability trends, best practices, and legislation with a global perspective
- Identify opportunities to embed sustainability data and KPIs into the organization in a way that positively influences and supports business decision making
- Prepare recommendations for senior leadership and partner with key stakeholders across the organization to implement recommendations
- Engage with external parties and scout for opportunities relevant to Caterpillar’s sustainability strategy
- Strategic Thinking: Knowledge of the importance of “big picture” thinking and planning; ability to apply organizational acumen and competitiveness to identify and maintain focus on key success factors for the organization
- Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgement
- Influencing: Knowledge of effective influencing tactics and strategies; ability to impact decisions within and outside own organization
- Project Management: Knowledge of effective project management strategies and tactics; ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control projects
- Sustainability: Knowledge of sustainability strategy, emissions accounting, and reporting; ability to integrate sustainability into the overall business strategy of the organization to build a sustainable business model
- Knowledge of the Organization: Knowledge of the organization’s vision, structure, culture, philosophy, operating principles, values and code of ethics; ability to understand the value of aligning capabilities with business goals to support optimal performance
- MBA or Master's degree
- Familiarity with ESG voluntary and regulatory reporting frameworks and standards, including but not limited to GRI, SASB, GHG Protocol, TCFD, CDSB, EFRAG, ISSB
- Minimum 5 years of overall professional experience with a master’s degree, or 7 years without a master’s degree
- Prior experience in business analysis/research, business strategy, consulting, or corporate development related roles
- Experience in energy, industrials, heavy equipment, automotive, or similar engineering- or manufacturing-based industries
- This position is based in Irving, TX or Peoria, IL
- Caterpillar is in the office five days per week, with flexibility as needed
- Relocation is available for qualifying U.S. based candidates
- The position may travel as needed both domestically and internationally (will vary by project)
