Shift/Schedule: Full Time (36 hrs/wk), Varied ShiftGENERAL SUMMARYWorks under the supervision of the Registered Nurse. The Unit Clerk/Monitor Tech/Nursing Assistant's primary job function is to perform clerical duties associated with preparing, compiling, and maintaining the patient records on a clinical nursing unit. May be required to work on other nursing units. Performs other duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONSEducation:
- High School Diploma or successful completion of an equivalent High School Exam Required
- Completion of an approved nursing assistant program or equivalent experience required
- Ability to read, write, and speak English required
- Working knowledge of medical terminology required

- Functions as a communication source for the nursing unit.
- Records data, reports, enters patient charges and other information.
- Monitors cardiac rhythm by means of telemetry and/or hardwire.
- Interprets and identifies rhythms.
- Reports variances and life threatening arrythmias to appropriate RN.
- Welcomes and greets those coming on the unit.
- Uses telephone etiquette according to SOMC's standards for behavior.
- Performs basic patient care activities.
- Observes patients and reports unusual conditions and/or reactions to the nurse.
- Assists with admissions, discharges, and transfers of patients.
- Answers call lights and responds to patient needs.
- Maintains patient environment and performs routine cleaning tasks in nursing unit/patient rooms.
- Documents according to policy.
- Runs errands.
- Performs pre-cleaning, decontamination, and transports instruments that have been used on patients appropriately.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
