This position is scheduled to work 5:30 am - 2:00 pm.We offer competitive wages and a full menu of benefits including health (3 options), dental (provided), vision, life (provided) + extra life, short-term and long-term disability (provided), 401K (retirement) with company matching, 10 holidays and paid time off.General Description of the Position:The Machining Technical Specialist is part of the Machining Technical Support team, primarily responsible for supporting the production machining team with process troubleshooting and problem resolution to maximize machine uptime and maintain production workflow. This individual will be considered a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Atlantis Operations Machining. All aspects of machining and product workflow will be the primary focus of effort including but not limited to: machine setups, workholding solutions, machine operation, deburring, instrument inspections, compliance, non-conformances, root cause analysis, troubleshooting, repairs, PMs, calibrations, line extensions, process transfers and qualifications. The Technical Specialist will also be a key driver of global process harmonization efforts within Machining and responsible for coordinating the implementation of process improvements in collaboration with the other global stakeholders.Another key aspect required from all Atlantis operations personnel is a focus on Lean manufacturing principles to incorporate continuous improvement activities within our FDA regulated environment. The Technical Specialist will also be consulted as a team member for various projects collaborating with all areas of Operations (operators, engineers & managers), Development, Marketing and QA/RA personnel to offer assistance.The Technical Specialist will also be consulted as a team member for various projects collaborating with all areas of Operations (operators, engineers & managers), Development, Marketing and QA/RA personnel to offer assistance.Principal Responsibilities:
  • Provide advanced technical support for production activities such as machine troubleshooting, repair, malfunction resolution, calibration and preventative maintenance activities.
  • Provide technical support for daily machining production and training for machinists and trainees when needed.
  • Support Process Development and Operations Engineering during new product introduction activities to complete Operations tasks as identified in project plans.
  • Review new product introduction details and process changes prior to deployment to the production environment.
  • Evaluate experimental procedures and recommend changes or modifications for improved efficiency and adaptability to setup and production.
  • Participate as a team member during cross-functional design reviews, verification and validation activities and transition activities when new equipment/processes transfer from Operations Engineering to production following ISO 13485 and FDA GMP standards.
  • Support the development of new machining strategies and CNC programs for new products.
  • Develop continuous improvement activities of existing machining processes (including cycle time optimization, surface finish quality as well as others) and other Lean, 5S and Kaizen projects.
  • Specification and procurement of necessary machining hardware and cutting tools.
  • Collaborate with global manufacturing teams to maintain production harmonization. Occasional international travel may be necessary;

Education/Experience
  • High School diploma/GED or equivalent combination of educatoin and experience.
  • 5 years' experience (10+ years preferred) operating CNC milling equipment independently in a fast-paced production environment. 5-Axis and Mill/turn experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience using machine automation, CNC equipment, electronic workflow systems and software solutions to simplify tasks, manage workflow and improve performance.
  • Experience developing machining strategy and selecting tooling and workholding solutions, as well as programming and setting up CNC milling equipment.
  • Advanced CNC programming skills including turning and 5-axis programming.
  • Experience with 3d CAM systems.
  • Must have a thorough understanding of parametric (Fanuc Macro) programming and the associated benefits.
  • Experience utilizing structured project management methodologies preferred.
Qualifications:
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Must be able to consistently and efficiently drive projects to completion with a minimum of supervision.
  • Strong technical and analytical aptitude
  • Thorough understanding of metalworking concepts and machining theory along with strong problem solving skills to be able to troubleshoot advanced process problems and issues.
  • Extensive knowledge of precision measuring instruments and the application of such instruments.
  • Experience with advanced metrology solutions such as Vision systems, CMM, etc.
  • Extensive knowledge of tool holders, cutting tools, boring bars, fixtures, inserts and other accessories used on various machines.
  • Intermediate knowledge of reading drawings and specifications with a basic understanding of geometric tolerancing and dimensioning.
  • Thorough understanding of the functionality and design principals of CNC equipment in order to troubleshoot advanced problems and issues with machinery
  • Experience performing routine preventive maintenance as well as identifying and performing minor repairs on CNC equipment
  • Must have good manual dexterity and the ability to work with small precision parts under a microscope.
  • Able to perform accurate measurements using precision measuring instruments.
  • Must be methodical and adhere to good documentation practices.
  • Computer literate. Able to use standard computer applications and interact with a computer for data entry and other reasons.
  • Willing and able to follow company procedures and quality system regulation.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally in written and spoken English.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time as needed.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced team-oriented, collaborative environment.
  • Must be adaptable to a changing work environment, competing demands and able to deal with frequent change or unexpected events.
  • Must have a high level of professionalism.
  • Ability to work unscheduled overtime as needed to support production needs and/or project deadlines.
