Assist the Principal Investigator in designing and performing protocols. Design and perform experiments. Collect and log research data. Participate in implementing research objectives, ensuring compliance with all legal, regulatory and protocol guidelines. Assist other lab members with experiments as required. May mentor research assistants and students.With the assistance of the mentor, find and write research grants with the goal of obtaining additional research grant funding. Responsibilities may also include coordinating correspondence with applicants and grantees, acknowledging receipts of proposals, and maintaining a system to track proposals.Evaluate and perform preliminary analysis of the data using graphs, charts or tables to highlight the key points of the research results collected in accordance with the research protocols as stipulated.Prepare and present presentations regarding research project results for professional, scientific and academic conferences. Summarize and organize data results for submittal to academic and scholarly, peer-reviewed journals. Write scientific manuscripts and other documents for publication. Fact-check, proofread, and edit research documents to ensure accuracy.Maintain the laboratory work areas including routine maintenance on laboratory equipment as required. Order and organize required research supplies and records. Maintain cleanliness and organization of work station.Perform other related duties as assigned.Unique duties:The Espinosa-Diez Laboratory at the Center for Molecular Medicine and Genetics, Wayne State University (Detroit, MI), is seeking a highly motivated and innovative Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join our dynamic team. Our research focuses on the intersection of non-coding RNA biology, microvascular remodeling, and cancer-induced vascular toxicity. This position provides the opportunity to conduct independent, cutting-edge research while contributing to collaborative projects within a supportive, team-oriented environment that values mentoring, diversity, and inclusion. The successful candidate will take a leading role in advancing research projects, developing new experimental approaches, publishing high-impact papers, and contributing to grant applications. The position also offers the chance to mentor students, gain teaching and leadership experience, and build the foundation for an independent academic or research career. • Design, execute, and troubleshoot experiments related to non-coding RNA reprogramming, vascular remodeling, and cancer biology. • Analyze, interpret, and present data at lab meetings, conferences, and in manuscripts. • Manage and maintain the laboratory's mouse colony, including breeding, genotyping, and experimental procedures. • Mentor graduate and undergraduate students, providing training in experimental design, techniques, and data analysis. • Contribute to writing manuscripts, research proposals, and progress reports. • Ensure compliance with laboratory safety standards and maintain accurate, organized records. • Collaborate effectively with internal and external research partners.Qualifications:Education: Doctorate degreeRequires advanced knowledge in a field of science or learning, predominantly intellectual in character. This knowledge is acquired by a prolonged course of specialized intellectual instruction.Experience: Intermediate (3 to 4 years job-related experience)Job related experience can include doctorate training. Experience performing basic research techniques, preferred. Must have distinguished themselves in research. Prior recipient of funding for research based on individual achievements.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Ability to work independently. Ability to secure grants and funding for research. Ability to collect, analyze, summarize and interpret research findings in reports and communicate results to the field. Knowledge of and experience with current scientific integrity principles. Excellent time management and organization skills. Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work with others in a collaborative environment. Microsoft office software skills.Preferred qualifications:
  • Proficiency in molecular biology techniques: PCR, RNA/DNA extraction, qPCR, Western blotting, and next-generation sequencing approaches. • Experience with mammalian cell culture and functional assays. • Demonstrated expertise in mouse handling, genotyping, and in vivo models of disease. • Strong data analysis skills and familiarity with statistical methods. • Excellent organizational and project management skills. • Effective oral and written communication skills, with the ability to present findings clearly and concisely. • Commitment to fostering a positive, collaborative, and inclusive laboratory environment. Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Physiology, Genetics, or a related biomedical field (or equivalent doctoral degree). Strong record of productivity as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications. Experience in vascular biology, cancer biology, or non-coding RNA research is highly desirable. Proficiency in molecular biology techniques: PCR, RNA/DNA extraction, qPCR, Western blotting, and next-generation sequencing approaches. Experience with mammalian cell culture and functional assays. Demonstrated expertise in mouse handling, genotyping, and in vivo models of disease. Strong data analysis skills and familiarity with statistical methods. Excellent organizational and project management skills. Effective oral and written communication skills, with the ability to present findings clearly and concisely.
