Position SummaryThe MLW Laboratory Processing Representative II position in Specimen Management is responsible for knowing all the functions of the LPR I, plus additional functions. This individual will have completed the necessary training consistent with for Specimen Management and will show proficiency in the following areas: Test ordering policy, specimen requirements related to test ordering. Additionally, must meet accuracy and production standards, and must meet all the job accountabilities and job requirements/environment indicated in the LPR I job description. This position is involved in more complex processing which could include but not limited to Window Station, Frozen, Fluids, STAT’s, CPU (incl. hospital), and Micro. Performs customer service-related duties and route assignments as assigned.Essential Functions and Responsibilities Includes the Following:
  • Demonstrates proficiency in responsibilities of the LPR I
  • Meets/exceeds productivity and quality standards
  • Understands and adheres to the WPH Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors.
  • Act as a liaison for specimen pickup on campus daily as a primary responsibility
  • Understands the daily schedule for specimen pick-up, including STAT’s throughout the hospital and campus
  • Understands the specimen manifest for practices and logs specimen count by practice
  • Responsible for in-house phlebotomy (window) telephone calls and triages in an accurate, efficient, and timely manner
  • Solves more complex problems on a routine basis
  • Responsible for removing specimens from transport bags, validates number of bags received, verifies proper identifiers on all requisitions; specimen tubes (labels) and promptly follows-up on discrepancies or omissions on paperwork or specimens.
  • Understands the relationship between tests ordered and specimen received
  • Responsible for entering ordered tests from outreach requisition into HIS to ensure that the ancillary laboratory departments receive appropriate testing orders; prioritize workload to ensure the timely processing of all specimens.
  • Responsible for labeling, centrifugation, aliquoting and dissemination of specimen to the proper laboratory department
  • Demonstrate knowledge and use of client specific registration and accessioning procedures.
  • Identifies problems and in some cases, may resolve issues with specimen types such as missing information etc.
  • To ensure seamless communication between shifts, responsible for documentation of all outreach issues in the HIS for follow-up and resolution the next business day
  • Demonstrates knowledge of department and hospital policies and procedures and their execution
  • Completes job specific competency requirements.
  • Maintains a clean and organized work area - Demonstrate ability to maintain a safe environment and use universal precautions.
  • Ensures all client inquiries are escalated for resolution in a timely manner.
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned.
Education & Experience Requirements
  • High School graduate or GED equivalent required.
  • Ability to type 35 words per minute.
  • Previous experience in a healthcare environment preferred.
  • Medical terminology preferred.
  • Ability to use basic office equipment, basic computer skills, and knowledge of EPIC BEAKER (HIS) a plus.

  • Ability to walk and carry/lift 25lbs throughout the shift.
  • Ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to perform repetitive functions, and capable of concentrating for extended periods of time.
  • May be exposed to chemicals necessary to perform required tasks. Any hazardous chemicals the employee may be exposed to are listed in the hospital’s SDS (Safety Data Sheet) database and may be accessed through the hospital’s Intranet site (Employee Tools/SDS Access). A copy of the SDS database can also be found at the hospital switchboard, saved on a disc.
