Role SummaryWe’re looking for a Staff Wireless Network Engineer to lead and scale wireless infrastructure across our manufacturing environments. You’ll play a critical role in designing and maintaining high-performance wireless networks in our factories—ensuring seamless connectivity for production systems, vehicles, automation platforms, and handheld devices. In addition to wireless expertise, this role will provide support across our broader factory network, contributing to scalable, secure, and resilient IT infrastructure. This position will be located in either Normal, IL or Atlanta, GA and report to our Manager of Network Engineering.
Responsibilities
- Architect, design, support and optimize factory wireless infrastructure including Wi-Fi 6/6E, private 5g/LTE, UWB and mesh topologies
- Lead RF planning, site surveys, heat maps, and spectrum analysis using Ekahau, Hamina, AirMagnet, or similar tools
- Configure and support wireless controllers/portals, access points, authentication services (802.1X, RADIUS), and wireless security policies
- Perform proactive monitoring, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis of wireless connectivity and performance issues
- Develop and enforce wireless design standards across new factory builds, expansions, and retrofits
- Serve as escalation point for complex wireless issues and outages
- Collaborate with manufacturing engineering, vehicle software and IT teams to align wireless solutions with production needs
- Occasional travel may be required to support deployments or troubleshooting at different sites
- Mentor junior team members
- Support factory networks including switching, routing, VLANs, DHCP, DNS, VPN and
- Assist with data center, IDF/MDF and production line network design and implementation
- Access IDFs on the production floor using a scissor lift for troubleshooting or installation of switches, as needed (training provided)
- Participate in on-call rotation and support for wireless as well as business-critical initiatives beyond wireless
- Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent work experience
- 8+ years of experience in wireless and enterprise network engineering, preferred in manufacturing or industrial environments
- Expert knowledge of Wi-Fi protocols (802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax), RF fundamentals, wireless QoS, and capacity planning
- Hands-on experience with wireless solutions from vendors such as Cisco, Juniper Mist
- Proficient in networking concepts (TCP/IP, switching, routing, VLANs, 802.1X, RADIUS,SNMP, network segmentation)
- Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills using tools like Ekahau, Wireshark, and spectrum analyzers
- Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and mentor junior engineers
- Self-motivated individual with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
