
Train Dispatcher

- Ensure compliance with federal and company safety rules, policies, and procedures. Respond to safety concerns and take appropriate action.
- Ensure safety is not compromised with the direct and indirect supervision of all train crews, Maintenance of Way, and signal employees working on, or near the railroad tracks.

- Ability to maintain composure and demonstrate leadership and teamwork during stressful situations.
- Be engaged and monitor train movement and conditions affecting movements, such as weather conditions, train crew availability, and equipment availability. Use logic and reason to identify approaches, problem solve, and determine disciplined responses to unplanned events and emergency situations and manages these instances to maximize safety, minimize passenger inconvenience, and limit delays to affected trains.
- Knowledge of territory and physical characteristics, train schedules (arrival/departures), destinations, and run times.
- Ensures proper track bulletins, track warrants, and communications to all employees are accurate/timely.
- Performs a variety of administrative duties, maintain accurate records, and make necessary notifications as required.
- Regular and consistent engagement, participation and promotion of Herzog’s Culture and its essential behaviors are a requirement for this position.
- Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality are a requirement for this position.

- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Previous train dispatching experience preferred. Railroad experience preferred.
- Ability to read, write, & communicate, as well as issue oral instructions, clearly and accurately utilizing a variety of communication devices.
- Able to sit for extended periods of time, prioritize and manage multiple issues, make sound decisions, and input accurate data in a high-pressure environment.
- Available to work 40-hour work week. Subject to overtime, on-call, and alternate shifts that include weeknights, weekends, and holidays.
- Proficient in Word and Excel with the ability to learn railroad specific software programs.
- Must be able to pass required tests prior to completing training period.
- Subject to pre-employment background check and motor vehicle report review.
- Subject to pre-employment physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen due to the safety sensitive nature of this position.
- Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis.
- Work primarily in an office environment.
- Frequently sits for extended periods of time.
- Frequently use a computer keyboard and office related equipment.
- Requires occasional standing, walking, lifting, stooping or bending.
- Must successfully pass color/vision examinations as required by the position.
- Must be able to hear and distinguish auditory signals as required by the position.
