You will conduct individual patrols in designated areas, using both foot and patrol vehicles to control traffic and proactively prevent crime. Responding efficiently to emergency calls directed by the police dispatcher, you will familiarize yourself with your beat and the community members within it. Your responsibilities will include identifying and reporting suspicious individuals and establishments to your superiors, securing crime scenes, and making arrests for misdemeanors and felonies. You will also assist in criminal investigations, report hazards, disperse unruly crowds at public events, and provide first aid during accidents.Additionally, you will direct and reroute traffic around disruptions and ensure compliance with regulations at public establishments, playing a critical role in safeguarding the City of Pharr and its residents.Are you a good fit for this Police Officer job?To excel as a Contract Police Officer with the City of Pharr, candidates must possess a unique blend of skills and qualifications. Being a United States citizen and a minimum age of 18 are foundational requirements.Those with prior police experience will receive special preference, allowing for a more experienced and capable team in our commitment to community safety.Minimum Set Requirements by Texas government code for the Peace Officer position are:1) Must be a United States Citizen by birth or naturalization;2) Must be a High School graduate; or3) a G.E.D. with 12 completed college hours with at least a 2.0 grade point average4) Must possess a valid (Texas) driver's license.5) Must be eligible for licensing by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement.6) Must be at least 18 years of age.7) Must be proficient in reading and writing the English language.8) Must meet all physical agility requirements.9) Eligible applicants must meet the following conditions:
  • Must not have been convicted for any offense of a class B or class A Misdemeanor in the last 10 years.
  • No conviction of any family violence offense.
  • Must have not been convicted of a felony offense.
  • Applicants that have been arrested on felony charges and not convicted may not be considered.
  • Applicants that have two or more separate moving traffic violations in their driving record (prior two years) may be disqualified;
  • Bi-lingual applicants (English & Spanish) will be given special preference;
  • Applicants that are licensed police officer will be given special preference.
