General:Performance of restorative procedures that maximize the resident’s existing abilities, emphasize independence instead of dependence and minimize the negative effect of disability with an attitude of realistic optimism in accordance with Capital Health Care Network’s mission and philosophy and as directed by the Director of Nursing. The Restorative Nursing Assistant and/or designated restorative programming staff have successfully completed the Restorative Nursing Assistant training program. His/her primary function is to carry out resident-related restorative nursing functions, which are predetermined for each resident and assigned by the DON/ Restorative Nurse, and/or Physical/Occupational/Speech-Language Pathologist. The Restorative Nursing Assistant works under the supervision of the DON/Restorative Nurse and reports directly to the Restorative Nurse and/or Designee.Qualifications:
  • High School graduate or the equivalent.
  • Must be a State Tested Nursing Assistant.
  • Training in the Restorative Nursing Assistant training program.

  • Monitor the use and be able to apply appropriate positioning devices, i.e. hand rolls/splints, seat cushions, and any other type of orthotics or positioning devices.
  • Follow appropriate charting/documentation procedures.
  • Attend in-service educational programs required by person delivering resident care as per state regulations.
  • Participation in scheduled meeting with Restorative Nurse and/or Physical , Occupational, and/or Speech therapist.
  • Briefs the resident of procedures involved in restorative care and prepares necessary equipment.
  • Demonstrates to residents and staff personnel, as necessary, the procedures involved in the treatment process.
  • Encourages residents to perform or participate in designated restorative plan.
  • Instructs and supervises residents during programming.
  • Recommends modifications and changes in the resident’s restorative care as indicated.
  • Ensures treatment time is accurately recorded.
  • Assists in developing of safety standards for restorative care.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Demonstrate effective communication skills with other team members for relating information concerning a resident’s condition.
  • Adheres to all HIPPA guidelines.
  • Projects a positive and professional image at all times. Complies with all Infection Control, Universal Precautions and OSHA standards for the health care professional.
  • Reports to work on time and adheres to work schedule that maintains acceptable patient ratios and work efficiency during assigned shift.
  • Assists with and participate in Quality Assurance Programs as required.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:Physical requirements for this position are classified as medium under the Department of Labor classification. The employee must be capable of exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and /or 10 to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 pounds of force constantly, to move objects, equipment and/or residents. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend or crouch; use of hands to manipulate tools, equipment, or controls; reach with hands and arms, balance, lift, and perform medium to maximum transfer assists with residents. The employee is required to have visual and hearing acuity sufficient enough to assess resident safety and ability. The employee works mostly inside resident rooms and the therapy gym/clinic space. p.
