
FOIA Analyst

The FOIA Analyst will perform comprehensive support for FOIA operations, working with FOIA Officers, POCs, and SMEs. Core responsibilities include:Request Management:
- Monitor systems, mail, faxes, and email accounts for new requests and referrals
- Analyze incoming requests for compliance and procedural requirements
- Draft acknowledgment letters with appropriate fee categories and determinations
- Coordinate with components for document review and case management
- Assign and track requests through the appropriate channels
- Identify offices and personnel with potentially responsive records
- Task and monitor search responses to ensure completeness
- Provide guidance on proper search techniques
- Determine appropriate search methodologies
- Convert and prepare documents for review
- Identify information exempt from release under applicable laws
- Apply appropriate redactions with proper exemption annotations
- Review release recommendations and reconcile differences
- Prepare correspondence for approval by authorized officials
- Coordinate with subject matter experts and legal counsel as needed
- Prepare final response packages for signature
- Maintain electronic case files with comprehensive documentation
- Update case management systems for data accuracy
- Manage correspondence and communications
- Prepare Vaughn indices for withheld documents
- Generate required reports and statistics
- Ensure Section 508 compliance for public materials
- Associate's degree or equivalent experience
- Three or more years of experience in analytical and administrative support services
- High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel) and Adobe Acrobat
- Experience with electronic FOIA processing tools, preferably FOIAXpress
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Knowledge of Section 508 accessibility requirements
- Proven technical knowledge of the Freedom of Information Act (5 U.S.C. ยง 552)
- Ability to analyze documents and identify exempt information
- Experience with redaction processes and exemption application
- Strong attention to detail in data management and reporting
- Previous experience in government FOIA offices
- Knowledge of federal FOIA policies and procedures
- Experience with FOIA case management systems
- Background in legal research related to FOIA cases
- Familiarity with federal recordkeeping requirements
