- Sustain high learning expectations for all students and enhance the consistency and rigor of classroom instruction by overseeing the implementation of the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks, which include Common Core Standards, in grades PreK - 12, in Mathematics in collaboration with the Executive Director of Academics.
- Lead the implementation and ongoing development of Math curriculum aligned resources to support student learning.
- Collaborate with the Executive Director of Academics and the Teaching and Learning team in the development of professional development for building level instructional leaders (Principals, Assistant Principals, and Expert Teachers)
- Provide embedded professional development through co-teaching, model lessons and curriculum planning with new teachers.
- Collaborate with Expert Teachers to design and implement teacher support and growth.
- Collaborate with the Executive Director of Academics to support high school Department Heads of Mathematics.
- Collaborate with the Data Strategist to analyze and make meaning of Math data at the district, school, classroom, and student-levels to identify talent and professional learning needs.
- Partner with school and district leaders in the implementation of a data driven system of assessment and data monitoring using multiple sources of data to assess the needs and progress of students in grades PreK-12
- Continue to be informed of instructional research in math education and use this information to drive curricular and professional learning decisions.
- Ensure the implementation of high quality Math professional learning for teachers, that is sustained and aligned to the district's priorities and responsive to school needs.
- Support Principals with the recruitment and hiring of effective teachers of Mathematics by periodically supporting the screening of applicants as well as interviewing potential candidates.
- Develop and monitor the Math budget within the Teaching and Learning Team budget
- Organize the purchasing and distribution of all curricular materials related to mathematics
- As a member of the district level Teaching and Learning Team, collaborate with the Director of English Language Learners to develop more comprehensive and effective instructional approaches and pathways for students in grades PreK-12 who are English Language Learners (ELLs).
- As a member of the district level Teaching and Learning Team, collaborate with the Pupil Services team to ensure high-quality instruction for all students with disabilities.
- Serve as a thought partner for school leaders to support with budgeting and ordering of curriculum aligned resources.
- As a member of the district level Teaching and Learning Team, collaborate with the Executive Directors of School Leadership as a throughline to school leadership
- Serve as an advocate for the equitable distribution of resources and talent in mathematics
- Possess a readiness to lead and own the district wide improvement of student performance results
- As a member of the district level Teaching and Learning Team, collaborate with the Family and Community Engagement team to ensure messaging around Math curriculum and assessment is accurately and clearly communicated.
- A strong understanding of MA Curriculum Frameworks and Common Core State Standards, high quality instructional practice, and proven track record using individual student as well as school-wide assessment data to drive student achievement gains in an urban setting.
- Experience coaching or managing high-performing instructional teams as a department, school, or network leader.
- Outstanding critical thinking skills, with demonstrated success in backwards planning and curriculum mapping to drive high levels of student performance during a time of tremendous change.
- Ability to efficiently and effectively manage complex projects and teams.
- Ability to be a bold, innovative, and engaging change agent and culture-creator; a visionary leader with a track record of inspiring and motivating those around them.
- Excellent managerial skills, with proven success managing and coaching a team of professionals to ambitious goals.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to guide and inspire teachers, school staff, school leaders and central office staff toward a common goal.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, with a track record of working collaboratively with staff at all levels and community partners to deliver exceptional results.
- A commitment to high performance standards and unwavering belief that all students can excel.
- An advanced degree in education, mathematics or related field required.
- Supervisor/Director license required.
