Job Description:PeaceHealth is seeking a RN ASC PreOp/PACU for a Part Time, 0.50 FTE, Day position.The salary range for this job opening at PeaceHealth is $43.03 – $64.55. The hiring rate is dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to education, training, work experience, terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement, seniority, etc.Job SummaryResponsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and coordinating patient care through the preoperative and/or postoperative phase of care. Participates with other facility team members to provide optimal patient care and efficient patient flow, taking into consideration the population-specific needs for patients at all stages of life.Essential Functions
  • Patient Care: Performs professional preoperative nursing care for patients to ensure a caring patient experience.
  • Patient Care: Coordinates with other internal or external disciplines that are involved in providing patient care.
  • Patient Care: Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates patient care provided by coaching, training, and developing ancillary personnel while documenting findings.
  • Patient Care: Evaluates outcomes and adjusts the nursing care plans as necessary in consultation with other nursing staff and physicians. Documents patient care and the response received from the care provided by staff.
  • Patient Care: Enhances patient flow by proactively coordinating with other departments for patient care.
  • Patient Care: Assures that patient is knowledgeable about the procedures being performed and communicates efficiently with family or support persons.
  • Patient Care: Prepares patients for procedures and ensures that surgical sites are marked.
  • Patient Care: Administers medication and controls narcotics for patients as ordered by the physician.
  • Patient Care: Performs venipuncture as necessary for IV starts.
  • Patient Recovery: Assesses the patient's recovery from sedation and/or anesthesia and makes appropriate judgments for nursing intervention. Recognizes life-threatening arrhythmias and initiates appropriate therapy and/or assures assistance.
  • Patient Recovery: Monitors patient levels of consciousness through communication and appropriate observation of blood pressure, O2 saturation, cardiac and respiratory statuses.
  • Patient Recovery: Prepare patients for discharge with postoperative instructions per orders from physicians and assesses patient readiness for discharge using discharge criteria.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
QualificationsEducation
  • Accredited School of Nursing Required.
Experience
  • Minimum of 1 year Required: Related experience in a multi-specialty PREOP/PACU, preferably in a hospital or ambulatory surgery center.
  • Required: Completion of an accredited OR training program.
Credentials
  • Required: Registered Nurse in state of practice.
  • Required: Basic Life Support for healthcare providers.
  • Required: Advanced Cardiac Life Support.
  • Required: Pediatric Advanced Life Support.
Working ConditionsLifting
  • Patient handling no greater than 35 lbs. without the use of assistive equipment and/or devices (NIOSH).
  • Fine motor skills to be able to grasp and control medical equipment and perform precise procedures.
  • Push/Pull: Frequently up to 45 lbs. force (i.e., WOW, medical carts).
  • Perform hands on CPR at least 20 mins using 100-125 lbs. of force (National Assoc. of EMS Physicians and AHA) Frequency should be seldom or occasionally.
  • Ability to move around area with frequent sitting.
  • Bending/ stooping/ squatting/ reaching/ kneeling frequently.
  • Lifting (non-patient) up to 20 lbs. occasionally and 5 lbs. frequently.
Environmental Conditions
  • Exposure to biohazard, body fluids and airborne particles.
  • Must be able to complete tasks in a noisy environment.
Mental/Visual
  • Vision and hearing required within normal limits (glasses, contacts, hearing aids permitted).
  • Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
