RC/Department: 5049 -GAS STORAGE ENGINEERING :KMPLPosition DescriptionKinder Morgan (KM) underground Gas Storage Engineering (GSE) is currently seeking a Well Operations Manager responsible for supervising well drilling, completion, workover and logging operations at numerous storage facilities throughout the United States as well as Well Operations Supervisors employed by Kinder Morgan. It’s operations include over 1300 wells in 32 gas storage fields at 27 locations in 10 states.The Well Operations Manager will be responsible for ensuring KM’s policies/procedures are followed in the field specifically related to safe drilling/well operations at all gas storage facilities. The following summarizes the job responsibilities of the Well Operations Manager.SAFETY FOCUS - Support the GSE group and field personnel in achieving Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) targets.
- Implement detailed workover / completion / drilling prognoses for well work programs that satisfy asset objectives and demonstrate compliance with policies and regulations.
- Supervise KM Well Operations Supervisors.
- Reviews progress and directs changes in priorities and schedules as needed to assure work is completed in an efficient and timely manner. Participates in the selection/promotion of staff, salary change considerations, and disciplinary matters and conducts performance evaluations.
- Supervise third party well site consultants.
- Schedule and coordinate 3rd-party contractors as required.
- Prepare detailed cost estimates and schedules for all planned work activities.
- Manage and communicate drilling/workover project costs and progress to all stakeholders on a daily basis.
- Track overall costs for drilling / completion/workover programs as required.
- Participate in post well analyses and benchmark results of actual costs vs. planned.
- Prepare post job analysis report identifying improvements and lessons learned that can be applied to other wells and fields.
- Update all well files both electronic and field files.
- Communicate with State Regulatory Agencies as required to satisfy permit requirements.
- Work closely with GSE and facility operations personnel to ensure a SAFE, efficient operation.
- Work with procurement to facilitate delivery with suppliers of materials and services required for well operations.
- Communicate with GSE concerning operational, cost, risk and schedule issues.
- Handle special project assignments as required.
- Be proactive in anticipating drilling/workover challenges and quick and effective when reacting to issues.
- Demonstrate and consistently apply the highest level of leadership in KM standards, practices and policies.
- Be willing to travel to the field for project implementation and interaction with field personnel.
- Be willing to work a rotating schedule if the need arises on 24 hour drilling operations.
- Effectively coordinate and oversee well site field contractors, Drilling Well Supervisor, and well site consultants to ensure that safety work practices and work permits are compliant with both OSHA and Kinder Morgan EHS requirements.
- Communicate to GSE management known/discovered non-compliance or inefficiencies in KM’s EHS practices.
- Location is flexible depending on the selected candidate (Colorado Springs, CO or Houston, TX)
- High School Diploma or GED
- Training in well control and prior experience with drilling and completion / workover rigs.
- 10 years of experience in a supervisory role within an oil-field drilling / completion environment.
- Proficient in using advanced Microsoft Office Software to effectively execute work tasks.
- Must be CPR and First aid certified, and have knowledge of emergency rescue procedures.
- Must be able to collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team, take direction from supervisor(s), prioritize work schedule, focus attention on details, and follow rules.
- Ability to work independently to prioritize and manage workload while providing timely turnaround on tasks.
- Strong verbal and written communications skills (able to communicate effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization, governmental regulators, customers and the public).
- Strong leadership and listening skills.
- Effective personnel management skills, especially strong delegation skills.
- Must be able to successfully and simultaneously manage multiple tasks, often under short or changing deadlines, in a diverse and fast paced environment.
- Required to carry a company-provided cell phone, and be available to respond during working and non-working hours; share in on-call duties rotation.
- Complete regulatory compliance, training, and other actions on-time with appropriate closure status
