As a critical part of the Advanced Engineering group, this Sound Engineer will be a key contributor of improving the end user experience with our consumer and commercial products. You will utilize CAD, physical model making, creative experimentation and problem solving skills to create and validate new solutions which solve the consumer frustrations related to sound. You will collaborate with CFD Engineers, Test Engineers, Mechanical Engineers, Electrical Engineers and Industrial Designers to improve the user experience. The perfect candidate for this role will be self-motivated and have a keen interest in understanding how things work. They will be patient, persistent, detail oriented and capable of taking constructive feedback while working collaboratively.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Apply engineering best practices to provide design solutions based on test and theory
  • Conduct sound testing including vibration, airflow, unit deflection and leakage
  • Early identification and mitigation of noise and vibration guiding best design practices, test planning to assess trade space, and driving customer experience with quality
  • Design and test products and prototypes iteratively to prove out ideas and concepts
  • Design products to meet desired specifications and schedules for new products and systems
  • Participate in cross-functional teams to define criteria and brainstorm new solutions
  • Critique, review, and provide feedback for sound improvements
  • Work with Industrial Design, Engineering and Manufacturing counterparts as needed regarding product subsystem, motor/fan design, and drive systems
  • Research competitor performance for benchmarking purposes
  • Develop new tests to troubleshoot designs as needed
  • Analyze test results and issue reports and recommendations to team
  • Facilitate review meetings related to sound
Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Minimum bachelor's degree in engineering, computational sciences, physics and/or acoustics
  • Other undergraduate degrees in similar technical fields may be considered
  • Master degree in Engineering is preferred
  • Minimum 5 years in noise and/or vibration testing
  • Minimum 5 years in new product development for mass market manufactured goods
  • Significant knowledge of noise and vibration fundamentals, modeling and design application
  • Skilled in use of sound test equipment and environment
  • Proficient in measurement, analytical techniques and execution methods to control product noise sources
  • Experience in electromechanical product design
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering fundamentals and manufacturing processes such as injection molding
  • Hands on experience with prototype builds and competitive product tear downs
  • Demonstrated experience and background in Electronics/Motors
  • Significant experience in modeling and simulation
  • Expertise required in diagnosis of electromagnetic, mechanical, aerodynamic noise sources and structural dynamics
  • Documentation and technical writing skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Experience working in cross-functional teams
  • Ability to convey technical concepts through written and verbal communication
  • Positive approach, team player, strong work ethic and high integrity
  • Creative and practical problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in parallel
  • Ability to meet deadlines and goals within a fast-paced environment
  • Experience developing high volume products with overseas manufacturing
  • Working experience with CREO CAD system
  • Working knowledge of six sigma methodology
  • Self-motivated and capable of managing projects within a fast paced environment
  • Strong problem solving skills, attention to detail and accountability
  • Mechanical and electromagnetic aptitude
  • Design for Manufacturing and Design of Experiments experience
