Completes inspections, driving reports and logs, services truck and trailer maintenance such as refueling, tire pressure, lights, etc., and ensures cargo is secured. Navigates inter and intrastate regulations, road and weather conditions, transportation barriers, other driver's actions, etc. Provide feedback about real-world testing to the safety and software development teams.Essential Duties and Responsibilities include:
  • Driving and ensuring safe operation of autonomous semi-trucks obeying all traffic laws and complying with DOT regulations.
  • Complete all inspections and safety checks before and after operation of the truck. Any safety concern must be communicated to operations safety manager and approval to drive before moving the vehicle.
  • Complete driving reports, procedures, and tests to collect data to improve the technology.
  • Provide essential feedback on system performance to the software and safety teams.
  • Navigating inter and intrastate regulations, maintaining accurate logs and records.
  • Research and communicate any weather or road conditions that may impact safe driving.
  • Communicate any changing conditions to site location immediately.
  • Notable attention to detail, both with documentation and on the road.
  • Work closely with engineers, software developers, technicians, and operators.
  • Ensure cargo and contents are properly secured in the trailer to prevent damage and injury.
  • Maintain and service truck and trailer as needed such as refueling, tire pressure, etc.
  • Communicate any truck and trailer maintenance needs to the mechanical technician as soon as possible for repairs.
  • Always maintain cleanliness of the truck and trailer.
What you'll need to succeed:
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with Class 8 tractor-trailer driving on public roads
  • Computer proficiency required including GPS and other routing systems, DOT dashboards, etc
  • Experience with driving and parking semi-trucks, transporting and securing cargo, operating in a wide array of weather conditions, and performing vehicle and cargo safety checks
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local government Health & Safety regulations (OSHA, ANSI, DOT, FMCSA, NHTSA, etc.). DOT regulations experience working with commercial trucking required
  • Must have good attention to detail and be able to describe their thoughts quickly and concisely
  • Capable of responding quickly and simultaneously to multiple scenarios
  • Adapt quickly to new and developing technology
  • Must be able to multitask multiple technologies, including communications devices and vehicle status systems
  • Must be self-motivated and demonstrate good judgment, in fast-paced, high-stress environments
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to build trust and strong relationships, effectively create reports and relate data, and communicate to a diverse workforce
  • Strong business insight and judgment, team orientation and collaborative style
  • Strong time management and organizational skills to plan, develop, coordinate resources, prioritize effectively, and maintain programs and initiatives simultaneously and in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to ethically handle sensitive and confidential information with impartiality and professionalism
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Must be 21 years old
  • Valid Commercial Class A Driver's License with a safe driving record required; Tanker endorsement preferred
Travel, Training and Safety Requirements
  • Position requires transportation to locations outside the main complex. Valid US Driver's license with a safe driving record required. May travel occasionally to other states.
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment as required in areas identified through hazard assessment.
  • Requires continuous technical education and training with a passion for knowledge to maintain the highest level of knowledge, ingenuity, and creative thinking.
Physical Demands
  • Excellent vision and adaptability for rapid visual response with excellent peripheral vision and depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Possess great physical stamina and focus during long driving shifts.
  • Occasional exposure to outdoor weather conditions. Ability to work in inclement weather/temperature extremes.
  • Ability to climb into and out of cars and trucks and to sit four to ten hours inside the vehicle on a daily basis.
  • Ability to work early mornings, evenings, and/or weekends, as well as overnight shifts and travel.
  • Ability to be flexible and may work overtime when project demands.
