$1,000 Sign on BonusPhlebotomist/Laboratory Technician greets patients, process paperwork and specimens, and logs all tests into the computer. Performs heelsticks, fingersticks, and venipunctures on all patients to include:Infant (age 0-2) Children (age 2-14) Adolescents (age 14-20) Adult (age 20-65) Older Adults (
65 years)PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:1. Greets patients arriving in the phlebotomy laboratory.2. Logs into the computer, all tests checked off on the requisition, making certain all pertinent information and comments are included in the process.3. Produces bar code labels to affix to specimens after collection.4. Performs heelsticks, fingersticks, and venipunctures on populations defined above, using aseptic and proper techniques.5. Makes certain that specimens are appropriately labels and collected.6. Maintains correct paperwork and procedures specific to 850 Boylston Lab.7. Prepares the blood drawing area for patients, making certain an appropriate inventory of supplies is maintained and that the area is maintained in a clean and orderly manner.8. Performs WB PT test procedures, and necessary paperwork and clerical duties.9. Responsible for maintaining a safe work area and adhering to all safety, Infection Control, and OSHA guidelines and policies.10. Demonstrates professional customer service skills whenever interacting with a customer.11. Performs support services as assigned and other duties as required.12. Is responsible for all other responsibilities and duties necessary for the day to day operations of the laboratory including safety and compliance OSHA.13. Responsible to be aware of JCAHO National Patient Safety Goals and to comply with BWH Hospital and Laboratory policies and proceduresQualificationsQUALIFICATIONS:1. Requires a high school diploma.2. One or two years prior experience, but will train.3. Standing and walking 80% of the time.SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:1. Must have good communication skills and the ability to make the patient relaxed and comfortable.2. Must be able to perform heelsticks, fingersticks, and venipunctures on populations previously defined.3. Must have ability to work well in a fast paced environment.4. Must have good organizational skills and be flexible to adjust schedule in accordance with the needs of the laboratory.5. Must have the ability to interpret laboratory requisitions.WORKING CONDITIONS:1. Busy laboratory environment.2. Exposure to odors, infectious materials and other hazardous substances.
