Job Title: Overlook Activities Center Roller Skate InstructorDepartment: RecreationReports To: Recreation and Aquatic Program ManagerSafety Sensitive: NoSupervisory Responsibilities: NoClassification: Part-time, Seasonal; Non-ExemptJob Level: 1Driving Status: NoWork Environment: Weekends and weeknights. The work environment is indoors and is often dimly lit with flashing lights and loud music.SummaryRoller Skate Instructor will teach both group and one-on-one "learn to skate" lessons for all age groups. The hours for this position may include weekdays, evenings, and weekends as determined by facility management and the "Learn to Skate" program outline. Lesson plans will be written and taught by the skate instructor.Essential Functions
  • Create and develop lesson plans for a "learn to skate" program
  • Lesson Plans will align with the program outline and program expectations
  • Teach one-on-one and group skate lessons for all age ranges
  • Provide excellent customer service through consistent, fair, and courteous enforcement of all rules
  • Discuss student status with parents/guardians in a respectful manner
  • Provide corrective and constructive feedback to students
  • Clean up the program area once lessons are completed, and ensure the facility is secured
  • Monitor skate equipment and discuss equipment needs withthe manager
  • Other job-related duties as assigned
Related Functions
  • Work with the Aquatic and Recreation Manager to schedule lessons, including providing accurate availability with proper notice
  • Knowledge of roller skating skills
  • Ability to speak in front of groups
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to demonstrate physical fitness to include frequent light to occasional heavy lifting (up to 30 lbs.)
  • Able to stand, roller skate and walk for extended periods of time and intermittently
  • Ability to reach with arms and hands, push items overhead, pull, occasionally stoop, kneel or crouch
Abilities
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge of skate skills
  • Ability to demonstrate tact and patience when dealing with customers
  • Ability to demonstrate flexibility in work habits to meet ever-changing schedule requirements
  • Ability to show initiative in all situations
Preferred Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Experience in teaching or instruction
  • Strong skating experience and knowledge
