OverviewThe Physical Therapist I (PT I) will perform evaluation and subsequent planning, execution, delegation, and supervision of treatment programs for persons with acquired or developmental disabilities. The PT I will participate in intra-disciplinary and interdisciplinary training programs. The PT I will provide patient care, supervise Physical Therapist Assistants (PTAs) and rehabilitation technicians, and maintain appropriate patient records consistent with KKI policies and procedures and in accordance with Laws and Regulations of the Board of Physical Therapy Examiners of Maryland.Responsibilities
  • Evaluate assigned patients using a variety of examination techniques including descriptive, quantitative, objective, standardized, reliable, and valid measurement tools. Consistently utilize and document program-specific and required examination techniques or objective measures, and measures that address impairments and the functional status of each individual patient. Document assessment, recommendations, discharge planning, and plan of care.
  • Re-evaluate patient as clinically necessary and required by state law. Consistently utilize and document program-specific and required examination techniques or objective measures, and measures that address impairments and functional status of each individual patient. Document recommendations, plan of care, discharge planning, coordination of care, progress toward goals, patient education, and home programs.
  • Execute patient plans of care using methods and procedures consistent with the Standards of Practice established by the Board of Physical Therapy Examiners of Maryland and within the PT’s competency to perform. Appropriately delegate to PTAs, and document communication regarding plan of care. Ensure the competency of PTA and technician’s skill as it relates to specific delegation of interventions. Provide direct supervision of all technicians, aides, and trainees.
  • Complete all written documentation related to patient evaluation/re-evaluation, execution of plan of care, letters of medical necessity, and patient advocacy in a timely manner. Document notes consistently with the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) guidelines for documentation, and according to policies and procedures of the ICSCI program, PT department, Kennedy Krieger Institute, and the Laws and Regulations of the Board of Physical Therapy Examiners of Maryland.
  • Effectively communicate with patients, families, rehabilitation team, case manager, and attending physician regarding patient evaluation/re-evaluation, execution of plan of care, functional status, progress toward goals, response to intervention, recommendations and discharge planning, including education related to discharge instructions and home-based exercise programs.
  • Assist with orientation and training other staff, students, trainees, and volunteers as assigned. Evaluate results of training and provide meaningful feedback to trainee and supervisor.
  • Actively participate in meetings and committees including execution of tasks related to preparing for regulatory review and performance improvement projects. Attend staff meetings, supervisory meetings, and training sessions.
  • Participate in care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies.
Qualifications
  • CPR certification from American Heart Association or American Red Cross required.
  • Eligible for license to practice as a PT in the state of Maryland.
  • Continuing education or certification in Physical Therapy or a related field is preferred.
  • *Individual must demonstrate competence across all age groups due to the diversity of the children and families served by KKI.
  • *Clinical care focus is on the neonate, pediatric, and adolescent populations, as well as some adults with disabilities.
EDUCATION:
  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) from an accredited undergraduate program for PTs.
  • Graduate degree (M.S. or higher) preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
  • One year of experience working in a related Physical Therapy practice setting is preferred.
