Responsibilities
- Manage cell engineering budget and tracking equipment/facility and test resources for cell validation/characterization
- Develop and integrate all Cell engineering related timelines to cross functional teams (BCS, BMS, T&V, Design, ME) and vehicle timing.
- Work with engineering manager and DRE to set up regular review meetings on cell development progress and resources and ensure cell engineering delivers critical milestones.
- Ensure Cell Programs Deliver to Requirements
- Collaborate with Rivian Vehicle Program, ESS Systems, and other stakeholders to define formal cell requirements
- Ensure requirements are communicated/flowed down to internal Cell engineering or external vendor
- Manage External Cell Vendors
- Develop relationships with incumbent and potential cell suppliers with whom Rivian has ongoing development programs
- Establish regular Product Development Team (PDT) meetings with vendor to review progress
- Track external program milestones to ensure that vendors stay on track
- Manage open issues list (OIL) with vendor to ensure work stays on track
- Early lead in advanced development. Work with the design team to identify key technologies to pursue and present opportunities and risks to leadership. Own the technology roadmap.
- Support overall design of pack/module layout, in collaboration with a widely cross-functional team of stakeholders from vehicle, service, manufacturing, systems, cell, and other teams. Design pack to meet requirements for strength, integrity, cost, weight, and to meet performance attributes
- Release cost/weight/part/design data into Rivian formal part release system
- Co-ordinate and manage Design and Release Engineers to have production release plans in place and executed with no late releases and no late parts for the build phases.
- Ensure Engineering Documentation is coordinated and managed to project milestones – Risk assessment/management, Requirements, DFMEA, DVP, Functional Safety.
- Vehicle Builds – Manage and co-ordinate all BOMs, and support purchasing as needed with part procurement, sourcing, etc. for all build phases.
- Work with engineering team and vehicle program to define piece cost, investment cost and weight targets
- Ensure team has sufficient resources and work with various stakeholders to secure resources as needed
- Review progress regularly with a critical eye to deliverable quality
- Elevate issues and risks immediately to mitigate impact to the program
- Be the ESS cell design program expert and support all technical delivery, design reviews, PDTs, concept definition and resolution of all Rivian concerns.
- Issue tracking and corrective action implementations using JIRA, Confluence, Enovia and other applicable tools
- Collaborate with Inventory Control and Launch to make sure the correct parts are ready for the build.
- Ensure battery checkpoint deliverables are understood in detail and plan resources to deliver to milestone targets.
- Host daily standup meetings to resolve issues and provide clear agendas
- Bachelors degree (or international equivalent) in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science,
- 3+ years experience in a product development environment
- Automotive experience a plus; consumer device experience acceptable.
- Good knowledge of Jira, Confluence, Jama, Smartsheet
- Experience working in and navigating ENOVIA and 3DEXPERIENCE (CATIA V6)
- Formal training in problem solving and/or quantitative analysis a plus (5-why, 8D, design for six sigma)
- Demonstrated expertise launching multiple products
- Formal training in program management a plus (PMP, APQP, etc)
- Formal training in problem solving and/or quantitative analysis a plus (5-why, 8D, design for six sigma, etc)
- Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, presentation)
- Excellent quantitative skills.
