DescriptionSAIC is seeking a talented and innovative Photonics Engineer to join our dynamic team in Bedford, IN. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and testing photonics-based devices and systems for a variety of applications. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in optics, lasers, and photonics, along with a passion for pushing the limits of optical technology.This position is contingent upon contract award in Summer 2025.Relocation assistance will be considered on a case by case basis.Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and simulate photonics devices and systems using software tools such as MATLAB, Lumerical, or COMSOL.
  • Develop optical components and subsystems, including lasers, modulators, detectors, and optical amplifiers.
  • Characterize and test optical devices and systems in laboratory environments.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate photonics solutions into larger systems or products.
  • Stay current with industry trends and advancements in photonics technology.
  • Contribute to research and development projects aimed at pushing the boundaries of optical technology.
QualificationsQualifications:
  • Seven (7) years of experience & Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Optics or related field
  • Or PhD in the above and four (4) years of related experience
  • Strong background in optics, lasers, and photonics.
  • Proficiency in optical design software tools such as Zemax, OpticStudio, or equivalent.
  • Experience with optical modeling, simulation, and characterization.
  • Hands-on experience with optical test and measurement equipment.
  • Knowledge of semiconductor device physics and fabrication techniques is a plus.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities
Clearance:
  • Must be a US Citizen and willing to obtain a Secret security clearance.
