Job Title: Phlebotomist IJob DescriptionThe primary role of a Phlebotomist I is to assist with various assigned duties, troubleshoot issues, and offer workflow recommendations. This position requires a professional who can efficiently perform blood draws, label specimens, and maintain accurate records while ensuring compliance with safety regulations.Responsibilities
  • Perform blood draws and properly label specimens.
  • Centrifuge specimens and record maintenance data.
  • Decontaminate equipment and update patient information accurately.
  • Collect and store specimens following established procedures.
  • Clearly and courteously explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collections to patients.
  • Demonstrate techniques using straight or butterfly needles.
  • Fully comprehend physicians' orders and match requisition forms to specimen tubes.
  • Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by the test order.
  • Verify test requisitions or computer labels against scripts for accuracy.
  • Package specimens for transport, ensuring they are stored at the required temperature.
  • Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
  • Attend annual department training sessions.
  • Answer phone inquiries and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
Essential Skills
  • Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, if required.
  • Minimum of 6 months' experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 0-2 years of relevant experience.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience in customer service.
  • Skill in specimen processing and data entry.
Work EnvironmentThe work environment is typically a fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting, requiring adherence to safety protocols and regulations.
