The nursing shift supervisor is responsible for competent practice as it relates to clinical nursing, leadership, and staff development for the provision of quality resident care. Communicate needs to the DON and/or ADON.Supervise nursing care employees and initiate disciplinary procedures when appropriatePromote personal and professional growth of staffAssess employee performances, completes employee evaluations, conducts employee evaluation conferences and disciplinary counselings as directedProvide for effective distribution and utilization of personnelMake recommendations related to recruiting, promotion, and discharge of personnelPromote cost containment practicesAssist staff nurses in assessing the condition of residents and planning for nursing management. Advise and assist nurses in administering treatments.Establish and maintain effective interdepartmental working relationships and promote guest relationsCooperate in providing a safe and pleasant environment and maintaining a high level of morale for residents and nursing personnelIn the event of a call off or in the absence of adequate staffing, it may be necessary to fill the role of a staff nurseMake significant clinical and administrative decisions for a specific shift based on department policies and proceduresAssume responsibility for the administrative functions in the absence of the DON/ADON, keeping Administration informed of departmental developments through oral and written reportsFully aware of the implications of the Resident's Bill of Rights and seeks to promote its intentFollow emergency procedures and respond rapidly and appropriately to emergencies ensuring the safety of the residents and staffFollow proper procedures and promote safe work practices in order to maintain a safe working environmentWork cooperatively and productively with others, including residents, families, and other employeesWillingness to work under direction and supervisionConfidentiality regarding resident information must be maintained in strict confidence, as well as other information pertaining to the business of Messiah LifewaysIn the event of a report/allegation of resident abuse or neglect promptly notify DON and/or ADON.
