Position Summary/Purpose of Position:The Communications Specialist, Content Creation is a key member of the University Communications team, supporting UMD's media relations, research and academic affairs communications, editorial and social media teams by conceptualizing, creating and editing engaging multimedia content. The Communication Specialist will develop a variety of communications materials, including video, photography, audio recordings/podcasts, social media graphics, presentations and written articles that illustrate and articulate our campus priorities, such as our Fearlessly Forward brand, strategic plan, and Grand Challenges research initiatives, as well as our commitment to creating a multicultural community focused on the Do Good spirit of public service. The Specialist will also help develop and deploy culturally relevant content for nontraditional media channels, such as podcasts and online forums.

- Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, journalism or related field is required.
- 3 years of professional experience in public relations, public affairs, communications or related field is required
- Exemplary writing, editing, presentation and copy-editing skills; proficient in AP style.
- Solid media instincts with proven track record of media and social media success.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to multitask and meet deadlines in a dynamic team environment.
- Proficiency in Google Apps (Docs, Slides, Spreadsheets, etc.) and Microsoft Office.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud applications, Canva or similar design and video programs.
- Keen judgement, problem-solving and interpersonal skills.
- University experience is desirable.
- Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
- Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work.
