SummaryThe Radiology Assistant Specialist will assist the healthcare team in providing excellent customer service and quality patient care by performing patient-related tasks as well as a variety of clerical duties. Responsibilities include taking basic X-ray exams, Dexa scans, patient transportation, and clerical duties.Position Reports To: Radiology Manager/Supervisor
Essential Functions
- Performs basic X-ray and Dexa exams as directed by the provider, in compliance with WA DOH X-ray Technician, Limited Scope license, (WAC 246-225-99920).
- Prepares patient and performs all approved exams following good radiation safety, quality assurance, and infection control procedures.
- Reviews and evaluates diagnostic images for technical quality.
- Verifies patient information and exams performed, updates and changes exam description to reflect actual exam performed.
- Utilizes PACS, RIS, and current EMR efficiently and completes the required paperwork for each examination performed.
- Maintains the cleanliness of x-ray equipment and associated minor equipment in accordance with infection control policies and procedures. Places work orders for service. Reports malfunctions and necessary repairs to supervisory personnel.
- Complies with all continuing education requirements as dictated by regulatory entities.
- Attend department meetings and participate in all annual required training and in-service training.
- Participate in Quality Improvement Programs.
- Complies with As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA) principles, Image Gently principles, and Image Wisely pledge.
- Understand principles of correct body mechanics and can apply these in assisting patients during transfer, lifting and ambulation.
- Required to maintain active Basic Life Support (CPR) certification.
- Other duties as assigned.
QualificationsRequired:
- DOH eligible for Washington State X-ray Technician Limited Scope Registration; must be registered within 6 months of hire.
- High School diploma or GED.
- Technical skills prior to employment to include typing and basic computer skills.
- Courses specific to clerical work.
- Clerical and/or medical experience.
- Basic X-ray exam experience.
