- Manages Ground Instructors during the delivery of training by ensuring instructional effectiveness, verifying instructor qualifications and ongoing competence.
- Promotes standardization across all training sessions to maintain regulatory compliance and consistent training quality.
- Ensures all training policies and procedures are carried out in accordance with FAA regulations, company policies, and labor agreements.
- Maintains professional and effective liaison programs with the following organizations:
- All departments within Atlas Air
- Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)
- International Air Transport Association (IATA)
- Air Mobility Command (AMC)
- Boeing Aircraft Company
- Airlines for America (A4A)
- Other groups / organizations that play a role in developing or conducting non-aircraft specific training
- Coordinates the development, submission, and FAA approval of non-aircraft specific training programs in compliance with Part 121 Subparts N and O and/or AQP, ensuring regulatory alignment and operational readiness.
- Develops/writes/edits and is responsible for the non-aircraft specific portions of the Flight Operations Training Manual and the Training Center Standard Operating Procedures Manual.
- Develops/writes/edits and coordinates curriculum changes based on approved courseware.
- Adjusts the non-aircraft specific training program to ensure changes driven by performance indicators on the line are implemented.
- Collaborates with aircraft Standards Captains and the Director of Training for each fleet to ensure aircraft-specific training programs are standardized in process, procedures, and format across all fleets.
- Collaborates with the Director of Crew Training Administration to ensure full compliance with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) security requirements related to the training of non-U.S. pilots, helping to safeguard national security, uphold regulatory obligations, and maintain the company's authorization to train and employ foreign pilots under applicable federal programs.
- Responsible for the development of Crew Resource Management (CRM) and Threat and Error Management (TEM) curricula to promote effective communication, decision-making, situational awareness, and teamwork among flight crews, with the goal of enhancing safety, reducing human error, and meeting FAA regulatory requirements under Part 121 Subparts N and O.
- Continuously identifies, evaluates, and implements key performance and compliance metrics—such as pass/fail rates, instructor effectiveness, training duration variances, and trainee feedback—to monitor and ensure regulatory compliance, instructional quality, and overall program effectiveness; uses data-driven insights to recommend improvements, adjust curriculum, refine delivery methods, and address training gaps in alignment with FAA standards and organizational goals.
- Identifies and manages day-to-day issues related to non-aircraft specific instructors and training delivery, including resolving instructor scheduling conflicts, addressing instructional quality concerns, supporting instructor performance and development, troubleshooting classroom or systems-related challenges, and ensuring continuity of training operations to minimize disruptions and maintain compliance with training standards and timelines.
- Collaborates closely with the Senior Manager of Publications and E-Learning to develop, update, and maintain comprehensive distance learning curricula and courseware, ensuring all content aligns with regulatory training standards and operational requirements; oversees the timely completion and deployment of online training modules to provide flexible, accessible learning options that support pilot proficiency, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement across the training program.
- Facilitates coordination and communication between different aircraft fleets to harmonize training procedures, processes, and standards where appropriate, ensuring consistency in pilot training and operational practices; this collaboration helps to streamline training delivery, reduce confusion or errors, promote best practices, and support regulatory compliance across the organization.
- Coach, mentor and develop direct reports, including overseeing new employee onboarding and providing career development planning and opportunities. Monitors performance and takes action to correct any shortfalls.
- Provides constructive and timely feedback in accordance with the Performance Management Process to all direct reports.
- Establishes processes and tools to monitor staff performance and use those metrics to provide meaningful feedback focused on service and performance improvement
- Performs other responsibilities as assigned by the Vice President, Training.
- Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in airline pilot training or aviation operations, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership or management role overseeing ground training programs.
- Bachelor’s degree in Aviation, Education, Human Factors, Safety Management, or a related field is preferred.
- Must have strong knowledge of FAA Part 121 regulations, including Subparts N (Training) and O (Qualification). Advanced Qualification Program (AQP), and TSA security requirements related to pilot training are desirable.
- Proven airline management experience with demonstrated ability to lead, develop, and evaluate instructional staff; effectively manage multiple priorities; and foster a collaborative, high-performance culture within a complex operational environment.
- Proven experience developing, managing, and obtaining regulatory approval for pilot training curricula and distance learning programs.
- An FAA Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate is strongly preferred.

- Minimum 10% travel required.
- Requires flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays to support a 24-hour operational environment and meet business needs.
- Critical to onsite operations and requires working on location under general office and general flight conditions in aircraft.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, develop, and evaluate instructional staff; manage multiple priorities; and foster a collaborative, high-performance culture.
- Experience in effective people management, conflict resolution, and resource allocation is highly preferred.
- Strong interpersonal, analytical, administrative, technical, and communication skills are preferred to support cross-functional collaboration and decision-making.
- Detail-oriented, with the ability to keep track of many moving parts and identify irregularities timely
- Ability to engage with and establish credibility with at the most senior/executive level. Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex information to diverse audiences and collaborate across teams.
