
Crime Victim Liaison - Grant Funded

- Contacts victims, by phone, to discuss specific issues of restitution, information, and protection; Referred to as RIP calls
- Provides victims with information about the status of their case and information regarding the criminal justice system
- Provides additional support to victims by offering various local community social service referrals
- Provides support to victim advocate staff by assisting with daily/weekly court dockets; court notifications; subpoenas; victim impact statements; court accompaniment and other victim service duties, as needed
- Meets with victims who arrive for court pre-hearing dockets to answer any questions and provide support
- Assist prosecutors with pre-trial interviews with victims on pre-indictment cases
- Available to provide safety planning for victims of domestic violence
- Available to provide information regarding Crime Victims Compensation
- Maintain statistical data forms for program management
- Performs related duties as required
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Social Services, Behavioral Science, or closely related field, and two (2) years of experience working with family violence cases; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Knowledge of the criminal justice system and available social services
- Skill to communicate effectively with hostile, abusive and irrational individuals; skill in managing multiple projects simultaneously
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing; ability to handle confidential information with discretion; ability to adjust to rapidly fluctuating situations, ability to operate personal computer; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, County employees, outside agencies, crime victims and the general public
- Must secure and maintain a favorable background investigation and clearance from the Bexar County District Attorney's Office
- Must clear a pre-employment physical
- Must be bilingual in English and Spanish
- Must have a valid Texas driver's license
- May be required to work more than 40 hours during the workweek
- Generally working in indoor conditions and on-site community training as scheduled
- Occasionally moves items weighing up to 10-15 pounds
- Occasionally moves about the office
- Frequently communicates with others; must be able to exchange accurate information
- Generally operates a computer and other office productivity machinery
- Positions self to perform essential functions
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position
