
Tax Manager - Family Office

- Oversee and support the preparation and filing of federal and state tax returns (Forms 1065, 1120S, 1040, 1041) across multiple entities and individuals.
- Prepare detailed write-ups and workpapers to support efficient filings and reviews by external tax firms.
- Review draft returns for accuracy and consistency with internal financial data and planning goals.
- Compile and analyze a high volume of K-1s, addressing capital account, basis, and allocation issues.
- Assist in quarterly and year-end tax planning, including modeling tax impacts from significant transactions.
- Work with accounting team to ensure tax-sensitive transactions are accurately captured in financials.
- Prepare and manage federal and state estimated payments and related documentation.
- Communicate with outside partners and investors regarding K-1s, allocations, and tax questions.
- Track and maintain investor-level tax attributes such as residency, withholdings, and elections.
- Help manage tax issues related to trusts, private foundations, and charitable giving strategies.
- Respond to IRS and state tax notices and coordinate resolution with external advisors.
- Maintain audit-ready files and comprehensive documentation of tax positions and correspondence.
- Ensure tax files, trackers, and estimate schedules are consistently organized and up to date.
- Use tax software to track, analyze, and support filings.
- Recommend improvements to workflows, documentation standards, and internal tax processes.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Taxation; CPA or MST strongly preferred.
- 7–10+ years of experience in public accounting and/or private tax roles with exposure to complex pass-throughs and high-net-worth individuals.
- Deep technical expertise in partnership tax, basis and capital account tracking, K-1 review, and multi-state compliance.
- Experience with trusts, private foundations, and estate-related tax structures is highly valued.
- Proficiency in tax software and strong Excel skills.
- Excellent communication skills—both written and verbal—with the ability to explain tax matters to non-specialists.
- Exceptional attention to detail, discretion, and professional judgment.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities calmly and accurately under pressure.
- Process-minded with strong documentation and follow-through habits.
