The role of Mechanical Engineer involves a combination of working independently and contributing as a key design team member toward successful development of machine tools and automated wafer processing equipment. This role requires either a master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with 5+ years of relevant experience in mechanical design for semiconductor process equipment. The preferred candidate should be detail oriented, have excellent problem-solving skills, and be capable of handling multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment. Some international and domestic travel will likely be required.
Essential Responsibilities
- Work with internal & external customers to create both component level and system level designs that achieve required targets for functionality, manufacturability, cost, and reliability.
- Use established methods to produce or modifiy layout and detail drawings for a variety of machines, components, and process tooling. Design or modify drawings and assembly diagrams for machines and tooling.
- Complete relevant calculations and modeling, such as finite element analysis, to support engineering decisions during the design process.
- Ensure all drawings and diagrams are updated to reflect the latest design changes. Create and maintain bills of materials and master part number assignments in accordance with established departmental policies.
- Write and update assembly procedures and operations/maintenance manuals as part of final deliverables for each project.
- Provide regular updates to project timelines for large projects showing major milestones and progress vs. plan. Communicate status and priority of each major project to company management team, both orally and in writing as appropriate.
- Identify, evaluate, and help prioritize ideas for improving design of machines, components, and process tooling.
- Coordinates cross-functionally to ensure projects meet business objectives and compliance standards.
- Assists with equipment installation, startup, and resolution of customer issues when needed, either at the customer site or via virtual means
- Other duties as may be reasonably assigned
- Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering (or BSME with 5+ years of relevant experience)
- Familiarity with modern standards for automated semiconductor process equipment, such as Semi S2/S8 and CE certification requirements
- Previous experience with wafer handling and automation is preferred but not required
- Strong communication skills are a must
- Ability to multi-task, organize, and prioritize work
- Fluent in English (both verbal and written)
- Computer literate and proficient in use of Microsoft Office software (Word, Powerpoint, Excel)
- US citizenship or permanent resident status is strongly preferred

- Travel: Occasional domestic travel is likely and possibly some international travel as well

- Direct reports: None anticipated, but may be called upon to oversee less experienced engineers or technicians for the duration of some projects when appropriate
