As the Community Capital Director at ProsperUs Detroit, you will lead our capital strategy and team, overseeing capital deployment, portfolio management, and financial literacy initiatives. - Provide strategic direction for the development, deployment, and continuous improvement of ProsperUs’ capital programs, ensuring they are accessible, community-driven, and financially sustainable.
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with funders and investors, supporting fund development through proposal development, reporting, and alignment with funder priorities.
- Establish and manage systems to monitor and evaluate team metrics, ensuring compliance with CDFI, SBA, and other regulatory requirements.
- Oversee reporting and compliance with loan agreements and covenants, ensuring timely submissions and adherence to requirements with lenders, shareholders, and regulatory partners.
- Foster cross-team collaboration to align capital deployment, portfolio management, and financial literacy work with organizational priorities.
- Drive process improvement, standardization, and innovation to expand access to capital for historically excluded borrowers.
- Contribute to ProsperUs’ inclusive and mission-driven culture by coaching, supporting, and developing your team.
- Capital Team Oversight
- Lead, mentor, and hold accountable the Capital Team, ensuring members are equipped with tools and training to meet organizational goals.
- Manage departmental budgets and loan fund projections, aligning resources with strategic priorities.
- Oversee all aspects of the capital pipeline: readiness, origination, deployment, servicing, portfolio management, and collections.
- Ensure policies and procedures for new and existing capital products are designed for accessibility, flexibility, and long-term borrower success.
- Provide capital-related data and analysis for leadership, the board, and funders, ensuring timely and accurate borrower reporting and compliance.
- Integrate lending systems and processes with organizational operations to maximize efficiency and impact.
- Outreach & Strategic Growth
- Cultivate strong partnerships with funders, investors, lenders, community organizations, and ecosystem partners to strengthen ProsperUs’ capital work.
- Engage directly with entrepreneurs and community stakeholders, ensuring ProsperUs’ services remain relevant, trusted, and deeply connected to community priorities.
- Lead capital program planning, goal setting, and reporting, offering solutions-oriented recommendations to organizational leadership.
- Identify and implement opportunities to expand ProsperUs’ capital services in alignment with strategic growth and long-term sustainability.
- Some other activities you will do to support ProsperUs:
- Represent ProsperUs within the regional entrepreneurship ecosystem and in various networks locally and nationally, as required;
- Continue enhancing knowledge and expertise in equitable entrepreneurship, community economic development, and race equity; and
- Assist with special projects as assigned and other tasks deemed necessary to achieve overall goals and to operate a successful program.
While demonstrating a high energy and passion for ProsperUs’ work, including our clients, partners, mission, and values, you are also able to do or know the following: * You have knowledge, experience, and credibility within neighborhoods and communities like those that ProsperUs serves. You are familiar with community-based organizations (CBOs), community development financial institutions (CDFIs), and nonprofits in Detroit and the region.
- You understand patient and flexible lending services, products, and leading practices and can advocate for their benefit for entrepreneurship and business development ecosystems.
- You have a deep understanding of accounting principles and financial statements (income statement, balance sheet, cash flow statement), budgeting and forecasting, financial analysis and credit analysis.
- You are interested in working with technology systems and you can learn and use new software and tools as required. Experience with Salesforce a plus, and training will be provided.
- You have a personal and professional commitment to intersectional equity, including the dismantling of racism and other forms of oppression that exist in the communities ProsperUs serves, specifically Black, Latiné, Arab, immigrant, and low- to moderate-income communities.
- You manage timelines and understand how to communicate your needs to others including team members, partners, and other stakeholders.
- You want to find a solution. You demonstrate proactive, entrepreneurial approaches to problem-solving with strong decision-making capability.
- You are self-motivated and able to work independently, but you also have practice working with internal or external teams and appreciate collaboration.

ProsperUs is looking for candidates who have the following qualities and experience:
- Experience and/or knowledge of entrepreneurship and economic development is required. Bachelor's degree in a related field encouraged, master's degree preferred. A mix of work-experience and education will be considered.
- At least five years of proven supervisory experience with skills in or related to commercial lending, loan servicing, compliance, or reporting for small businesses. Ideally, an emphasis on understanding businesses and entrepreneurs who encounter challenges related to systemic and institutional inequity.
- Prior work-related experience and knowledge of community development lending, federal and/or state-sponsored lending programs such as CDFI Fund, Small Business Administration (SBA) Microloan as well as traditional and alternative loan programs preferred.
- Strong technical skills with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and Nitro Pro (or comparable tools), operating systems, and networks.
- Flexibility in days and hours available for scheduled work, including regular evening engagements and occasional weekend commitments.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English. The ability to communicate in Spanish, Arabic, French, or Bangla is a plus.

The salary range for this position is $80,000 to $100,000; in addition, we offer these supports to help you manage your mental, emotional, and physical health:
