Announcement InformationJob SummaryThe Director of Enterprise Infrastructure is a senior leadership role within Oberlin College's Center for Information Technology (CIT), reporting directly to the Chief Information Officer (CIO). This position is responsible for the strategic planning, modernization, security, and day-to-day operations of the College's enterprise-wide IT infrastructure.Areas of leadership include cloud services (Microsoft Azure, AWS), Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace platforms, identity and access management (Okta), network infrastructure, data center operations, and disaster recovery. The Director will ensure the delivery of high-quality, secure, and scalable infrastructure services while applying strong organizational, operational, and project management expertise to drive strategic initiatives and support the College's academic, administrative, and research mission.Work Environment
  • Primarily on-site with potential for hybrid work based on College policies.
  • Some evening or weekend hours may be required for infrastructure upgrades or emergencies.
ResponsibilitiesStrategic Leadership and Infrastructure Modernization
  • Develop and implement infrastructure strategies aligned with the College's strategic goals, providing regular updates to the CIO.
  • Lead cloud-first initiatives, managing the integration of Azure, AWS, and on-premises systems to support institutional agility and resilience.
  • Direct the enterprise-wide deployment, integration, and optimization of Google Workspace and Microsoft 365.
  • In partnership with the Director of Information Security, manage identity and access management through Okta, including SSO, MFA, and automated lifecycle processes.
  • Establish and maintain a long-term, proactive maintenance and upgrade planning schedule to ensure system reliability, security, and minimal service disruptions.
  • Champion innovative, scalable, and sustainable infrastructure designs that support the College's academic, administrative, and research missions.
Project Management and Organizational Leadership:
  • Lead complex infrastructure, cloud migration, and collaboration platform integration projects, ensuring delivery on time, within scope, and on budget.
  • Apply structured project management methodologies to plan, execute, and report on major initiatives.
  • Develop project plans, track progress against milestones, manage risk, and drive resolution of issues.
  • Maintain detailed documentation, clear workflows, and operational playbooks to support infrastructure services.
Enterprise Systems, Cloud, and Network Management:
  • Oversee enterprise systems including virtualization (VMware), server management (Windows/Linux), enterprise storage, and disaster recovery platforms.
  • Lead the administration of network infrastructure, including wired/wireless networks, VPNs, firewalls, and cloud networking.
  • Ensure seamless integration between Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Azure AD, Okta, and related enterprise platforms.
  • Provide resilient, high-performance hosting environments for mission-critical applications, including ERP and academic computing systems.
Security, Compliance, and Risk Management:
  • Collaborate with the Director of Information Security to enforce security standards and regulatory compliance (GLBA, FERPA, NIST).
  • Implement best practices in cloud security, identity management, and data protection across all infrastructure services.
  • Lead disaster recovery planning, testing, and continuous improvements for institutional resiliency.
Team Leadership and Development:
  • Manage, mentor, and develop a high-performing infrastructure team including network engineers, system administrators, and cloud architects.
  • Foster a collaborative, customer-focused culture that emphasizes accountability, service excellence, and professional growth.
  • Support team development through training, certifications, and leadership opportunities.
Operational Excellence and Budget Stewardship
  • Oversee more than $2 million in annual operations and capital infrastructure budgets.
  • Develop, manage, and optimize budgets for infrastructure operations, capital projects, and cloud services with a focus on financial discipline, cost reduction, and long-term sustainability.
  • Lead vendor evaluations, contract negotiations, and service-level management to maximize value, lower total cost of ownership, and ensure delivery of reliable, high-performing solutions.
  • Monitor infrastructure health, performance, and capacity, proactively identifying opportunities to strengthen system resilience, minimize downtime, and streamline operations.
  • Drive continuous service improvement and operational efficiency through data-informed decision-making, strategic sourcing, and comprehensive lifecycle planning.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • 7+ years of progressive leadership experience in enterprise IT infrastructure roles.
  • Proven expertise in Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace administration and cloud services integration.
  • Hands-on experience with Azure and AWS architecture, management, and governance.
  • Strong background in identity management (Okta, Azure AD), enterprise networking, and systems administration.
  • Demonstrated success leading complex infrastructure or cloud migration projects with formal project management methodologies.
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and large-scale projects simultaneously.
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory frameworks and industry best practices (GLBA, FERPA, NIST CSF).
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, stakeholder engagement, and collaboration skills.
  • CISSP certification
