Nurse Supervisor - Med Surg/ICU - Full TimePOSITION SUMMARY:The MS/ICU RN Supervisor promotes the mission, vision and values of the organization. The supervisor is responsible for department education, employee scheduling and supervision, directing and coordinating patient care activities in the department, and provides administrative, clerical and practical support to the Nurse Manager.POSITION REQUIREMENTS:Minimum Education:
Graduate from an accredited school of nursing
BSN preferred
Licensure/certification:
Possession of a valid license to practice as an RN in the state of NV
BLS & ACLS AHA certification
Minimum Work Experience:
5 years of experience in nursing with at least three years in acute care; at least 2 years recent critical care experience preferred
Knowledge of nursing principles and practices; hospital policies, procedures and routines; disease process and treatment including physiological, environmental and physical factors that influence a patient’s well-being.
Working knowledge of the laws and regulations governing patient care and Health System operations
Ability to establish priorities in solving unusual medical and administrative problems; facilitate communication between staff and administration
Ability to educate, coach and counsel MS/ICU staff
POSITION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Leadership:
Inspires and motivates team members by modeling leadership and professional behavior that embody the Carson Valley Health mission, vision and values
Oversee MS/ICU staff to ensure quality care and compliance with policies and mandated regulations
Supports the Nurse Manager’s implementation of the strategic plan with effective communication with all team members
Provide staff feedback, written warnings and coaching as required
Performs employee rounding as instructed by Nurse Manager
Assist with input on annual employee performance evaluations
Addresses patient complaints in a timely manner in the absence of Nurse Manager
Performs patient rounding as instructed by Nurse Manager
Communication:
Provides effective communication process between administration, management and staff
Communicates in an effective and professional manner within all interactions with patients, visitors, physicians, nursing staff, and all other staff of the healthcare system.
Documentation:
Maintains accurate documentation and recordkeeping to support the day-to-day activities of the department
Works with staff to ensure complete, concise documentation that documents patient care and follows regulatory standards
Works with staff to ensure the accuracy of documentation on events or incident reports which may be potential risk management issues
Clinical Resource:
Onboarding, training and education for new hire staff members
Ongoing education and training for current staff members
Promotes adherence to CVH Standards of Conduct and Standards of Behavior
Assist and support nursing staff with independent problem solving and conflict resolution
Assists with follow-up to occurrence reports and medication events as directed by Nurse Manager
Provides coverage for staffing vacancies and break coverage as needed
